Effra
Empty shelves in NI supermarkets, blocked shell fish exports from UK, blocked plants with UK soil attached and now Covid vaccines being impounded in Italy. After a massive debacle with vaccine procurement they seem to be lashing out in a manner that will surely backfire on them. But they probably think the "EU dream" is worth any cost. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278737-eu-commission-what-next/ Share on other sites

Sephiroth
leaving the EU meant erecting borders - Remainers pointed this out and were told it was project fear - all the distribution issues affecting NI are a direct result of Johnson deciding to put border in the sea - as was predictedthe other option is a land border in Ireland - madnessBut all of this was forecast and dismissedWhat about shellfish? Was this EU lashing out? Not a bit of it - it goes back to 2020https://yorkshirebylines.co.uk/hapless-defra-secretary-eustice-humiliated-and-schooled-by-the-eu/Australia have asked EU to review the Italy decision but are relaxed and understand Italy needs them more than Australia does, given comparative death rates - far less hysterical than effra would have itMeanwhile the UK is reduced to paying for adverts disguised as articles in brexit supporting newspapers pretending to outline the benefits of brexit. One would think that if there were benefits these papers would be printing them for freenot to mention UK unilaterally breaking the agreement by extending supermarket grace period without consultation Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278737-eu-commission-what-next/#findComment-1494868 Share on other sites
TheCat
Oh Effra...you cant say that on here...someone will be along any minute now to tell you this is what Leavers voted for, and how all you're doing is blaming the EU for all our domestic problems.......But in anycase, I think its time I admitted that I do feel like I was lied to as a Leave voter. I was under the impression that the EU would be fair and reasonable partners should we leave the EU, whereas they are acting in a callous and vindictive manner, committed in their desire to make Brexit a failure, therefore making the harshest possible interpretations of the various agreements, and often wildly inconsistent with how they treat other 'third countries'. Case in point.....Not allowing 'equivalence' for financial services, when we still operate under the exact same rules that we did 3 months ago, and they have agreed equivalence with some weird and wonderful jurisdictions, but 'no' not the UK....their standards dont meet the EU's for financial regulation apparently. So yes, I was mislead prior to the referendum, mislead that the EU would not act to punitively punish the UK for leaving the club.... Sephiroth
and who made you THAT promise Cat? Did they try and sell you magic beans as well? You can say they are acting punitively - member states will say they are protecting their collective interests (something the UK did many times whilst a member) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278737-eu-commission-what-next/#findComment-1494874 Share on other sites
JohnL
We're a third country so of no concern to the EU except for what they can get from us.Their main concern would be that Le Pen wins the French election but even she won't take France out of the EU - as the Express itself admits - she would try to reform from within. Same in Italy.https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1402535/marine-le-pen-news-eu-eurozone-reforms-macron-poll-sptIt's not the EU itself in danger - it might be the current leadership.Reading further - her plan for France is to become the new Britain within the EU - thus take all the benefits we had for France. LOL. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278737-eu-commission-what-next/#findComment-1494875 Share on other sites

Sephiroth
"Lets all remember that if and when the UK aggressively responds...."to what end???This is the whole point about Brexit - it is needless and pointless attrition, caused entirely by misplaced English exceptionalism. If it really wanted to leave the EU it should have been honest with itself and it's voters and said it was going to be painful and costly over a long period of time, with additional worry of restarting violence in NI - but ask people if we wanted to do it anywayinstead it lied and when people tried topping out the folly of those lies they were called remoaners. This all old news now - but to actually think this was going to be easy after the fact, or accuse EU of throwing a tantrum is just indulging in the same misguided belief Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278737-eu-commission-what-next/#findComment-1494880 Share on other sites

Sephiroth
the EU is not breaking the (freshly signed) working agreement - the UK is. The UK agreed and signed this (at haste of their own making - no one forced them into it)The UK is, once again, the aggressor. And all for what benefit? Sephiroth
in short, Uk is beginning to realise it is Foooked. And apart from breaking international law (rather than using it's traditional diplomatic departments to engender trust and foster partnerships) it is blustering around the place without any leverage and making more and more enemies. And yet happy to threaten further aggressionbecause Johnson doesn't understand what he has donebut by appointing the likes of Frost he can be sure that this will only get worseAll predicted. All pointlessAnd leavers reduced to bleating about being treated in a way they don't approve of, and calling Europeans little Hitlers or squealing pigs. So tiresome. Sephiroth
"Tell that to Miche?l Martin and Simon Coveney after the way the EU imposed a border between the Republic and NI recently. "the EU imposed nothingVDL foolishly spoke of possibly doing it and was very quickly told off - and everyone agreed she was wrong. And even Remainers pointed out how wrong she wasAnd Ireland was able to pick up a phone and whole thing was over - but not for people like you who have continued to blow the whole thing out of all proportion. How is Coveney an "eejit"? in any of this. He was able to hear what happened, ring up and have the whole thing handled within hours. Irish remain quite happy thanks and aren't as childishly obsessed with some version of "sovereignty" that has them bitching and moaning the whole timeYou have your sovereignty - enjoy it.
