I've had a go at you before for playing the man, not the ball. In that context, its interesting that you want to put me into a convenient 'bucket' that makes you comfortable to judge me, and okay with dismissing my views......

I don't think I put you in a bucket, other than assuming you were a man close to my own age?

When you chafed at that I joked about young bucks

as for dismissing your views - I did that loooong ago. You are the current holder of the "forum reactionary who enjoys tweaking the nose of the libs while pretending they are merely objective and rational" accolade but your views speak for themselves

I don't think I'm playing the man by pointing out that your views and presentation are questionable. You very much pride yourself on your brand - don't complain if someone points out the brand isn't all that

EXPLAINER

What is Article 16 and why did the EU make a U-turn after triggering it?

European Commission president apologises over triggering of Article 16

... Irish MEPs in Brussels have said more clarity is needed on how the clause came to be triggered by the commission...

I understand your confusion Sephiroth. EU propaganda is a bit like falling down the rabbit hole, ie, transporting someone into a wonderfully (or troublingly) surreal state or situation.

Definitely Stockholm Syndrome

It was never ever implemented. Even ?triggering? is weird because after months of uk threatening to trigger it, it only took one evening of eu even mentioning it for uk to get a fit of the vapours

Would serve you well to read non British media Keano. Your partly in this mess because of such a meagre diet

Be realistic YOU are the prime "forum reactionary" and you invariably play the man and not the ball. Just look at your first response in this thread. Thinks of pots and kettles!

Also you said earlier "UK is beginning to realise it is Foooked". If it is foooked in your opinion, then you are totally free to return to The Republic and enjoy all the benefits of the EU.

I don?t get upset if people tackle me directly

I am indeed free to move back to Ireland. Thank you so much for reminding me. What a gracious host. It seems churlish to point out that in the intervening years I have English relatives and two young daughters who wouldn?t be as keen as I am to move to Ireland because they don?t have the wider purview of where their country is headed and they are VERY much attached to their friends here and now

None of which would be a problem were it not for the childish vanity project that is Brexit

In the meantime let?s go back in time and look at promises made in 2016

And now?

Any scintilla of acknowledgement they were wrong? Of course not. Always someone else?s fault. Always.

They were clueless and they lied.

They made claims that were not theirs to make

And people believed them

Are these non-British enough for you?

Von der Leyen: 'Mistakes were made' in triggering of Article 16

https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40223846.html

Ok well played on those headlines. I still maintain it wasn?t ?triggered? and it was only mooted. That?s my reading and I am open to the possibility I?m wrong and that events were set in motion beyond which Im acknowledging. It remains that nothing was implemented and was a storm in a teacup

But nowhere in those articles is there anything close to ?eejitry? or anyone bemoaning lack of sovereignty.

Nobody tackled you directly or anyone else for that matter. You bailed up like a rabid dog to the OP.

Surely there's a parental responsibility to full acquaint one's children with "the facts" whilst providing a "wider purview of where this country is headed" . Give them a chance to concur with your view that "the UK is foooked", as you say. If your views make sense, they will tag along with you when you jump this sinking ship and return to The Republic. You will be doing them and yourself a favour.

Maybe better not to rush away as the vaccination program is not going too well there according to the Irish Time...

""There is ongoing pressure on the Government to ramp up vaccination, from the Opposition and from its own backbenchers. Kildare North TD James Lawless sent a memo to the Taoiseach on Friday, calling on him to negotiate any spare doses with the UK, as well as to get Johnson & Johnson?s vaccine in place ahead of European Medicines Agency approval. He also said consideration should be given to ?going beyond the [EU] bloc procurement? and also examining whether Russia can supply doses of its Sputnik V vaccine ?in a useful timescale?.""

Seems the only thing the EU can achieve solidarity on is vindictive and spiteful retribution related to Brexit.

Well first one I google says it was a proposal

Although the below is quite a confusing sentence

"European Affairs Minister Thomas Byrne yesterday said the Irish government is seeking a new safety clause to prevent other suggestions for using Article 16."

There's a very fine line between such preoccupation and obsession.

    • This may be somewhat out of date but virtually no environmental benefit & almost entirely grass... really? https://www.gigl.org.uk/sinc/sobi09/ Description Peckham Rye was established as an open space in the late 19th century and includes several valuable habitat features spread across the park. The park is a Grade II Listed landscape, and has recently been restored with assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund. A small community garden within the site is managed by the Friends of Peckham Rye. Peckham Rye Park won a Green Flag Award again for 2022. The site is used by the Southwark Health Walks project as part of a Walking the Way to Health (WHI) scheme. Wildlife This large park has several valuable habitat features. The most important of these is the only remaining above-ground section of the River Peck and the most natural stream in the borough. The stream is heavily shaded by native, unmanaged wet woodland dominated by alder, ash and pedunculated oak with a ground cover of pendulous sedge and bramble. Alder dominated woodland is a rare habitat in Southwark. Although somewhat altered with weirs, other artificial structures and ornamental planting, some sections are still in their natural banks and includes yellow flag, watercress, water figwort and cuckooflower. The largest of three ponds supports marginal vegetation including hemp agrimony. A variety of waterfowl nest on the wooded island, including tufted duck, coot, Canada goose and mallard. Substantial flocks of gulls visit the park in winter and bats are likely to forage over the water. Small blocks of predominantly native woodland, mostly on the boundary between the Park and the Common, are dominated by oak and ash with a well-developed understory, but sparse ground flora. Spring bulbs have been planted in previous years. These and several dense shrubberies support a good bird population and small numbers of pipistrelle bats are present. Infrequently mown grassland is located in one large area and was seeded in 2009. It's composition includes giant fescue, ladies bedstraw, meadowsweet, black knapweed and wild carrot. The rest of the park consists of amenity grassland with some fine mature trees.
    • Same here. Incredibly selfish behaviour. Also illegal.
    • I heard them & our two dogs were extremely upset by it..  bad enough during the evenings but at least can have music on to dilute the noise!   Some people have literally zero thoughts for others!!
    • I have signed that petition.  Someone was letting off loud fireworks at about 3 am this morning. They woke me up.   I don’t know where they were exactly but it sounded like they were in the vicinity of Dog Kennel Hill.
