I agree and would not use Quickfit.

The authorities that look after MOT and the garages that are accredited, basically mean that they all should test exactly to the same level. They risk their licence if they don't do a proper job. Gone are the days when you could get a snide one. They have to it right. My choice would be who does it cheapest.

yannis mot centre in bellenden road. not only are the best around in south east london but are friendly and honest unlike a few already mentioned.they also do servicing ,car diagnotics and air con .they are truly great and to top it all they are the cheapest too at only ?40.00

I would recommend Deptford MOT centre. They're only 15 mins away. I've had MOTs there and one locally at one of the garages recommended above.

The difference: I have a Smart car and one of the rear side lights started blowing repeatedly in the year before I took the car into the SE22 garage. This garage tried to tell me that in order to change the bulb, they had to take off the whole of the back of the car and that this was a design fault with Smart cars. Actually, it was a design fault with the model before mine, not the model they were working on. It's quite easy to change the bulbs on my car. After I pointed this out to them, they gave up on trying to tell me that they would have to take the car apart in order to change the light bulb, but they still made a huge song and dance of it. They charged me ?97 for an MOT plus changing the light bulb.

I had the bulb changed twice locally in the year after the local MOT, I was told that it was an electrical fault that needed to be investigated and they charged me ?30 each time for changing the bulb.

I had the next MOT at the Deptford MOT centre after being recommended to go there by a neighbour. They put in a new bulb for the dodgy light without even charging me for it. They also told me that the reason it kept blowing was just that there was some rust in the light holder, and if I cleaned out the rust, this would solve the problem. This has proved to be the case. Total cost of MOT and light bulb changing: ?35.

I would avoid garages in the Barry Road area, especially the one one run by grunts who think they can rip you off because you're a blonde female....

I've been taking my car to Andrew Brock on Shawbury Road for the last 5 years and I would wholeheartedly recommend him. He's not a registered MOT garage so I take it to him and he takes it to Turners for the MOT test but he will do any work that needs doing to it. Charges me 50ish for the MOT. I know absolutely nothing about cars but never feel hopelessly stupid there and he is very reasonable too.
