catma
I fell over and gashed my knee quite badly yesterday...still sore and I would like to get the wound checked, but it's not really big enough to warrant time at A+E. Apart from the Lister walk in clinic, do we have a minor injuries walk in centre or similar nearby...the NHS choices website is useless. Thanks! japseylarue
I think if you ring your GP there will be an answerphone message giving details of emergency doctors and walk-in services. Whittler
Not sure if this is relevant, but the Waldron Health Centre in New Cross is open today and is a walk-in....http://amershamvale.co.uk/practice-times.html Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28451-is-there-a-minor-injuries-unit-anywhere/#findComment-611052 Share on other sites
polla2256
Just clean with alcohol and cover. Watch for red tracking from the wound, if there is tracking or puss after a few days then go to the doc's. I'm sure you'll be fine. EJTH
You will get turned away from A&E for this sort of injury. My suspected broken wrist was treated at the Urgent Care Clinic at Guys & St Thomas' at London Bridge. Seems to be the one to go to for ED - http://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/our-services/emergency-care/urgent-care-centre.aspxhttp://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/Urgent%20Care/LocationSearch/0 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28451-is-there-a-minor-injuries-unit-anywhere/#findComment-611066 Share on other sites
Jeremy
I've gone into Kings A&E with a couple of quite nasty cuts - one that required stitches, and another which just required cleaning and steri-strips. They were happy to treat them on both occasions. catma
Thanks all for the information - I went to the Lister walk in after all, very quickly seen and a nurse has now dressed and cleaned the offending knee...my worry was infection as it was starting to feel very hot and sore, usually not such a wuss but wanted to get advice to avoid further drama! It was the Waldron at new cross which used to be a minor injuries unit but that is now apparently a walk in clinic like Lister. Friends have used the Beckenham one and rate it, but driving is a bit tricky with a really useless knee joint! Thanks again! Twirly
Very sensible catma - a friend of mine had what appeared to be a minor cut before Christmas, didn't get it seen to and within a couple of days was admitted to hospital with a bad infection and an arm full of pus. He's just come out after a month long stay and a skin graft.
