Dulwich pond?

Does anyone know what is going on with the pond on Dulwich Common,by the College?? There are vast excavations with bulldozers and other equipment in use. It seems to have been drained and now partly refilled.

It gets drained about once every ten years.

wait there.. isnt shackletons boat in Dulwich College ? now the pond is being drained, the falklands have just voted to be loyal subjects and we have an Argentinian pope...the clues are all there

That's it, the pope intends to declare war on the college to capture the James Caird and exchange it for a Falkland, so the council has drained the pond to prevent them dropping the Belgrano II into it from a submarine.

Apologies if I've missed a memo, but is there a Mill at all? And if not, what's the point?

There is no Mill there now.

The pond water was used to make tiles and bricks some for the Penge Railway Tunnel.

One would not expect to find a large Windmill here but a wind vane pumping water.

The workers lived in Pond Cottages.

The Dulwich Society web will inform you better.
