Living in East Dulwich and London, the level of bicycle crime is shocking. Whether it is being worried about you child having their bicycle stolen or leaving a bicycle outside your home, we all know that crimes happen. I read today an article in the Sunday Times that made me realise that the government and the Police are helpless in doing anything about it. I?ve set up a petition to at least make criminals think twice, as all bicycles should be registered on Bicycle Register (https://www.bikeregister.com) which is free. Please sign the petition, and if you want to be involved please pm me. Please sign here on changeorg

Signed. This seems like a no-brainer really...

One first step could be persuading the main online markets to implement without the need for legislation.

There are cycling groups who would have a louder voice, if you could get them on board with it. Are they not already asking for this?

Hi Ian/Duncan haven?t done anything as detailed as you note. The reason I got worked up about it was my 14 year old son had an incident recently coming back from school on his bicycle. Thankfully him and his friend pulled up near some adults and the thugs decided it wasn?t worth it. Reading the article in the Sunday Times yesterday where grown men were being badly beaten up for their bicycles just made the memory resurface. You?re right that the petition needs lots of work. The petition probably needs more traction if it hits 100 signatures, and changeorg might take an interest in promoting it.

Having had several bikes stolen over the years in a variety of circumstances this is something that I have looked into on a number of occasions.

There are several reasons for this:

- Bike manufacturers not installing greater deterrents - microchips, labeling, registrations and the like

- The ease of selling bikes - Brick Lane, Gum Tree, small ads and the like

- Poor security in locking your bike up - chain/D lock to fixed objects in a busy area, even alarms

- The availability of sophisticated and less sophisticated tools - cordless angle grinders and bolt croppers

- Lack of properly secure bike parking - you can get municipal bike racks with integrated locks, but rare in this country

- Paid lock ups in our towns and cities

- Retailers not take this seriously - need to provide bike parking close to store security with CCTV and not a note simply that bike parked at own risk. Better still park it in store as you can at Decathlon in Surrey Quays. Not Lidl in Peckham has a pretty decent bike park with CCTV.

- Lack of enforcement by the authorities - I understand that TfL/Met cycle theft team was wound down.

- And worst of all (some of) us for buying stolen bikes

I would go to government policies on increasing active travel and net zero to see what is said. I think little.

And before signing a petition write to your MP along the lines above to see what the Transport Secretary has to say.

Must admit that seeing it popular again for teenagers or slightly older riding around on stolen TFL bikes pretty much every day tees me off. Been seeing more adults around the area and it's surroundings on them too, bumps the prices up for using them, and no doubt helps normalise stealing of other people's bikes on the street too by the sight of the many bikes I've seen kids riding there's little to no chance of them having bought them.

    • Hi all, I’m looking for a local photographer for one hour on Sunday 21st at 6pm in East Dulwich. We’re doing a food prep session and I’d love some natural, professional shots of: • Food being plated • Prep in action • A few team shots • Some finished dish photos We’re a small independent food business and don’t have a big budget for this one, but happy to agree a fair hourly rate and credit/tag you on all content. If anyone local is building their portfolio or fancies a quick paid shoot, please DM me with your rates and examples of your work.
    • Hi, not sure if anyone can help, I am having trouble with my car, a mechanical issue specific to this Peugeot model I have. I am looking to see if anyone knows of a garage nearby that has Peugeot knowledge and can help ( I also need to get the car towed there) I have tried stellantis in Croydon and Wimbledon, who are bloody difficult to get hold of for a start (took me a week to get some sort of reply) they can’t  book me in for over four  weeks, want £200 just to have a look at it first, and it’s a fare way for me to pay to have it towed Considering this is where I got the car from I,d thought they would be more helpful, but hey. just thought I would see if anyone had any recommendations on here for someone nearer.
