luciam
I know it's not much to go on but I'm trying to remember the name of this author, or her book. It was published quite recently I think and was written by an American woman writing about the American south- kind of a family saga covering several generations. I think it won a prize and it's her first novel. Can anyone help? civilservant
mmm, actually not a lot to go onthose Southern women are always writing family sagas that always seem to win prizescould you narrow it down, perhaps? e.g. vague plot outline/author ethnicity/name of prize, that sort of thing? "Big House Dreams" by someone called Susan or Carol de Chesere-Boyle authors name probably wrong but search by title will get you there. Hope this ends your search. Otta
Right, I'm going to hijack this thread.an anyone tell me the name of a British novel about 4 friends who meet every year to go on a mystery weekend to celebrate one of their birthdays. This time they go over to Ireland, where one of the blokes has a bit of a shady history, and they get involved with some dodgy characters. There is a woman who has a snake tattoo all down her arm, and there was a photo of a woman on the front cover with said tattoo. Otta
I ask because I read it once and enjoyed it, then leant it to someone and their flat burnt down along with the book. One of the 4 friends was the narrator (a bloke) another was (I think) called Harry, and he was a minor celebrity. There was a woman, and another bloke who they called "The Greek". I believe the greek and the woman had a love / hate relationship. If that's rung a bell, I'd be really grateful. uncleglen
Whilst we are at it- does anyone know the name or author (it might be Kurt Vonnegut) of a sci-fi story or book where somewhere in the book there are pieces of skin falling from the sky and there is stuff about old people- would dearly love to read it again.
