It used to go to all the way to Notting Hill. They reduced that part years ago. Would be a shame for the route to go altogether.

Not like there are loads of buses servicing the area already 🙄

We have lots of buses, Asset. We have three routes along nearly all of LL, then the smaller routes (P4, 485, P13, P12 etc.) and the Rye Lane routes down to E and C and beyond.

I agree it is not a good idea to take away this route but to pretend we don't have a decent if not good number of routes is wrong.

It looks like it will be replaced by 148 according to this article: https://www.mylondon.news/lifestyle/travel/london-bus-routes-tfl-plans-24107649

"After Camberwell Road, Medlar Street, the 148 would turn left and follow the old route of the 12 to Dulwich Library instead of terminating at Camberwell Green"

So we will still have the route in some form though I wonder what the frequency will be.

The one-four-eight will pick up the slack. TfL is a costly thing to run so I can understand where the thinking is on this. I do think there are too many buses at certain times, resulting in bunching and extended journey times, which is good for noone and not the environment, either - static or near static diesel buses end to end is not a good look for TfL which is keen to burnish its green(ish) credentials.

What's not good for the environment is having a reduced bus service making the car more attractive. What about those people who have mobility issues and find it difficult to hop on and off buses, let alone to keep changing along the route. Petition signed

These routes are useless for those of us who work in the Central west end.

The 176 more often than not seems to stop short at Waterloo and those of us who work in retail and catering rely heavily on the 12 to get us to and from work at a price we can afford.

No everyone wants to have to change busses to get to work...it means paying twice and what's more holding down a job in the current climate is stressful enough without it taking me over an hour and two busses to get to an from work.

i daresay you work from home and have a nice 40k+PA job..its the 'little people' like myself that have to worry about public transport and not clocking in late.

Actually 12 goes via Camberwell whilst the 63s, 78s and 343s don't.

Either the drivers been to Megan's on route or the bus is in the way to the start point at the library 🤔

Just on this idea of paying twice - hopper fares mean that you can get on unlimited busses within 1 hour and only pay once. It has actually really helped with bus travel for me, especially on routes like vauxhall to ED - means can take a 36 and then change at Camberwell for the multiple options there for example.

    • Wouldn't be a bad idea and would be beneficial to all road users. More so with Boris/hire bikes i do see some awful and stupidly dangerous  manoeuvr'es taken by the riders. I travel lots by bus and take the front seat upstairs when possible which gives one a great view. Have to say that i witness some awful risk taking by cyclists as well as little regard for the highway code which i think all road cyclists should be proficient in. If a moped user has to have passed a test to get on the road then i don't see why cyclist shouldn't either. It would be for everyone's benefit and certainly for the cyclists who are very much the more vulnerable when up against huge lumps of metal.   On the same tack i do think there should be some way that mobile devices are automatically disabled when in a moving vehicle. Form my view from the front of the bus it's very common to see drivers with there phones on laps and tapping or scrolling away one handed whilst there vehicle is moving. They're a terrible distraction and hard to put down for many. For balance i'd suggest the same for the cyclists that can cycle hands free while texting away. It's quite some skill but not so impressive when you see how vulnerable they leave themselves.
    • Hope you enjoyed this festival of cycling.  If so, do post on the "joy of cycling" thread.
    • Hello, I'm looking for somewhere local to store some furniture. I'd rather not go too far, so East Dulwich/Peckham preferably.  Does anyone know of anywhere? Or how I can go about finding it?  Thanks very much, Rachel
