My Interest in this was sparked by Last Night's Feedback.


Words that are now completely misused. I want educating..


The word that FB discussed was


EPICENTRE. It does not mean the centre of something but if correctly used to describe the epicentre of an earth quake would be describing the point at Ground level where the earth quake has maximum effect.



Any more anyone?

Is there some criteria to this, at what point does misused become meaning changed over time, think 'gay' for instance.


Acronym would be another, it's generally conflated with the hypernym 'initialism'. An acronym is an initialism said as a word, like SCUBA, rather than letters such as CID (See Eye Dee).

Which neatly brings us back to my question, when does common usage overrule incorrect usage?


All dictionaries now acknowledge the common usage of enormity, there's a quite clear etymological path for one to segue to the other for instance, and I'm already prepared to accept defeat on trope even though that's a very recent import from the states.


Ooh there's another, I'm seeing segway instead of segue a fair bit recently, that really bring on the wet clowns mantra

      I’ve been looking at their website from time to time over the last few years and I was sure that at least one loaf - the signature sourdough - is supplied by the BreadBread bakery who are at a lot of markets at weekends and who used to have a small cafe bakery shop in Brixton Market. I used to go there specifically to get their bread.   They are also affiliated with Franco Manca.  That was the first FM, co-founded by Bridget Hugo, who died last year. BreadBread also supplied the bread for the now closed Crooked Well pub restaurant (but now open under a different name - The Kerfield Arms)  in Grove Lane SE5.  Not sure where the pastries come from but it doesn’t seem possible to choose which ones to have delivered.  I do think they chop and change the suppliers from time to time.  I like the look of the (expensive) crullers they sometimes have plus granola, the savoury pastries and expensive bagels.  They frequently have special offers for a first delivery.  40% is the highest discount I’ve seen so far. I too would be worried about a fox being an opportunist.
