IPHONE / IPAD Users are fashion victims. For so many reasons. The first is feature leakage where several obvious features are left off the first model. Front Facing Camera, Memory Card Slot , Hi Res etc etc. Then six months later out comes a new model with one of missing features. The Victims rush out and buy this new far better model. then Six months later out comes a new model with yet another missing feature added. This goes on and on and up go Apple's Shares. Me I think HTC and Nokia are better - but the Windows Phone OS is Crap.

Another reason they are Fashion Victims is they DO look pretty. But really why buy a ?400 slab of plastic because its prettier than another ?400 slab of plastic? Especially as it spends most of the time in a pocket or bag. Surely Everyone can see this!

Apple have stalled. Many people who have bought their goods will remain, because they've bought into the Apple ecosystem.

There is nothing new in the release pipeline, and without the charismatic (ok, not to everyone) Steve Jobs, they'll now go back to where they were in 2002, serving a niche market, albeit much bigger than before.

Yes, the goods are over-priced (you can take a broken iPhone4 into the store for example, and they'll replace it for ?120 if they can't fix it). The marketing you describe is true.

But...they have brought technology to the masses, and technophobes love their support. On that I can't fault them. And, if I wasn't so mean, I'd probably buy one myself

oh goodie, a format war thread. Those are brilli *shoots self in the head*

I'm platform agnostic, but have yet to find a phone that does things as well as iOs. And nothing in the pipeline overlooks the (probably correct) rumour about Johnathan Ives overhall of the OS design. The OS is feeling pretty tired and disjointed after a few upgrades

An equivalent Android/Windows/whatever phone isn't saving you much in terms of ?? - so I don't quite see how anyone is a fashion victim

Drop down a few android levels and you really start to notice screen quality and other problems

so top whack will get you a good android/windows/ios phone with best processor and screen. Brand doesn't really come into it

But ted with a chip on his shoulder - who knew?

I do agree with woodrot that we need a good barney on here. Apple really P**s me off so I thought I'd see what everyone else thought. I don't do what anyone says - unless they have a tazer! And I'd love to get an IPAD when they finish putting in all the missing features- In Particular the memory card slot and proper USB. I think that will be in the IPAD 8. Though I'm not averse to a bit of homebrew so If I find a soldering site I will do it.

Why do you think this is exclusive to apple? it's industry standard behaviour.....in fact it's 'making money from manufacturing' standard behaviour.

A measure of how good/durable apple products are is the ipod classic- a model that hasn't changed in 7 years (an age in tech time) and is still a market leader at about ?200 (granted they only sell the 160gb version now, but you won't get a refurbed 80gb one for less than ?85-?90). My 80gb version is 6 years old, has been hammered it's whole life, and is like new.

A brilliant company that have consistently made brilliant products, that also look good.

I think you'll find the answer's in the question.

If you'd asked why buy a ?400 slab of plastic because its prettier than a ?300 slab of plastic, you might have a point. As it is, you don't really.

This looks sort-of new. Perhaps a little like the thing Obi-Wan creeps around to shut down the death star tractor beam. But that's a good thing..

I clicked on that link and get a picture of a tube with some stuff about coming later this year . Is that it ?

Todays cutting edge design is tomorrows kitsch and speeding along the recyling highway, keeping them chinese kids gainfully employed. Do I want to spend a grand to watch nononononono cat or another harlem shake mashup ( I fucking hate that word ) again ?

Apple are fucked.their innovation(theft of other people ideas)was their main advantage. All the design tweaks in the world ( in which we live in ) isnt enough to mask the moribundity of their range. ritual necrophiliac tendancies they employ to hawk their gadgetry has had its day. When the masses embrace your product, you make money, but how much more $ do they need at Apple ? their Warchest of billions has produced fuck all of note for the past few years.

When the hipster nazi vermin cease to buy your shite and your dad invests in one, then its the end bro'.

This self sustaining mythological cock about Apple being the creatives tech of choice should be put to death now.drowned in a bucket, like an unwanted kitten. If you are truly creative, you only need a slate and a piece of chalk. if you need an apple product to be creative, then you ought to rethink how you categorise yourself.

    • Per Cllr McAsh, as quoted above: “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution. " Is anyone au fait with the Clean Air Act 1993, and  particularly with the state of 'Smoke Control' law and practice generally?  I've just been looking  through some of it for the first time and, afaics, the civil penalties mentioned  were introduced into the Clean Air Act, at Schedule 1A, in May 2022.  So it seems that, in this particular,  it's a matter of the enforcement policy trailing well behind the legislation.  I'm not criticising that at all, but am curious.
    • Here's the part of march46's linked-to Southwark News article pertaining to Southwark Council. "Southwark Council were also contacted for a response. "Councillor James McAsh, Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets & Waste said: “One of Southwark’s key priorities is to create a healthy environment for our residents. “To achieve this we closely monitor legislation and measures that influence air pollution – our entire borough apart from inland waterways is designated as a Smoke Control Area, and we also offer substantial provision for electric vehicles to promote alternative fuel travel options and our Streets for People strategy. “We as a council support the work of Mums for Lungs and recognise the health and environmental impacts of domestic solid fuel burning, particularly from wood-burning appliances. “We are currently updating our Enforcement Policy and changes will allow for the issuing of civil penalties ranging from £175 to £300 for visible smoke emissions, replacing the previous reliance on criminal prosecution.  “This work is being undertaken in collaboration with other London boroughs as part of the pan-London Wood Burning Project, which aims to harmonise enforcement approaches and share best practice across the capital.” ETA: And here's a post I made a few years ago, with tangential relevance.  https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278140-early-morning-drone-flying/?do=findComment&comment=1493274
    • The solicitor is also the Executor. Big mistake, but my Aunt was very old, and this was the Covid years and shortly after so impossible to intervene and get a couple of close relatives to do this.  She had no children so this is the nephews and nieces. He is a single practitioner, and most at his age would have long since retired - there is a question over his competence Two letters have already gone essentially complaining - batted off and 'amusingly' one put the blame on us. There are five on our side, all speaking to each other, and ideally would work as a single point of contact.  But he has said that this is not allowed - we've all given approval to act on each others behalf. There are five on her late husband's side, who have not engaged with us despite the suggestion to work as a team, There is one other, who get's the lion's share, the typicical 'friend', but we are long since challenging the will. I would like to put another complaint together that he has not used modern collective communication (I expect that he is incapable) which had seriously delayed the execution of the will.   I know many in their 80s very adept with smart phones so that is not an ageist comment. The house has deteriorated very badly, with cold, damp and a serious leak.  PM me if you want to see the dreadful condition that it is now in. I would also question why if the five of us are happy to work together why all of us need to confirm in writing.             The house was lived in until Feb 23, and has been allowed to get like this.
