Sadly our cavalier died over the weekend but under suspicious circumstances. Did anyone see or hear a dog barking on Sunday night and then find his body the next morning? We are trying to piece together what happened to him. Please PM me if you saw him or found him either Sunday night or Monday morning near the nature trail. It was definitely not another animal which caused his death.

Thank you.

We had an autopsy done on him and it revealed he had been bitten by an animal but the cause of death was most likely a heart attack. His collar was cut and lying next to him so that still remains unresolved. Thank you for your messages of concern and advice. They were very much appreciated.

Thank you. He was found under a bush with his collar next to him, the collar had been cut in three places and pieces of it were missing. There were no teeth marks from an animal. My neighbour heard him barking at about 3.30am and then silence. Did he disturb someone? Were there any break-ins along the nature trail on Sunday night/Monday morning? Anyone with any ideas please let me know.

gerry,

How horrible- this must be extremely distressing for you and I hope you are able to find out what has happened.

It is not a nice thought, but I wondered if you has considered a veterinary autopsy which might at least help determine the cause of death. That might give some pointers. Have you reported this to the police? The collar strikes me as very odd. Again, I am so sorry, please let us know if you find out more.

Yes the SNF team is a good idea. I'm not suggesting thsi is the case here but there have been reports of nasty things happening to dogs in other parts of the country, so it is good that local police at least know this might be the case.

I'm guessing that as the dog was heard by a neighbout in the early hours of the morning that you must have been out? Were you broken in to for the dog to be able to get outside the house on his own? Was he outside and possibly taken from your garden?

Anyway, I hope you get some answers, the collar just seems odd- especially bits missing.

    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
