I might need to hire a small van for a day though I have the option of using a man with a van. Is there anywhere locally which has a good reputation? I did a search on google which led me to a thread possibly now deleted, which slated one crowd on Barry Rd I think.

Any suggestions please?

I've used Lino (who's technically in Dulwich Village) for more than five years. Always reliable, and didn't even complain when the bottom sludge from a fish tank spilled on him shortly before he was due to go off to a family event. He is a man with a van though and not a hire company.

If you want I can send you his number via a private message?

Not necessarily so Jeremy, this could quite easily be a news story concerning the Scottish leg of a UK Van Halen tour when Dave Lee Roth was in the band.

Apparently things could get a little, unconventional.

Hi Alan, we just moved house and hired a van through a company called iCanHire, which was brilliant. It works like ZipCar in that their vans are parked at various locations around East Dulwich, Peckham, Camberwell etc, and you simply go and pick them up and they unlock them remotely for you. We hired the largest size of Ford Transit van for 12 hours, and it was parked about five minutes from our flat! Very convenient. This is their website: http://www.icanhire.com/

    • I imagine Franco Manca's business dropped off quite a bit when Yard Sale opened (though isn't Yard Sale delivery only?) But in any case, both of those are chains.
    • Thanks. I'll call them shortly as I could get there without the car.  That's good of Sainsburys! We've done the apple pie and tart thing, an ongoing muesli thing and the coleslaw thing - just not sure what effect all the sugars are having on our digestive tracts.
    • One time Sainsbury's delivered 6 bags of apples instead of 6 single apples which I couldn't possibly get through. I phoned Pecan in Peckham to ask if they would accept them despite their website stating no fresh foods. I must have phoned at just the right time as they were happy to accept them. Sainsburys gave me a refund so the donation was courtesy of them. Or you could experiment with all kinds of apple recipes and write a blog about it
    • There's a food bank off Dog Kennel Hill. Albrighton Community Fridge. https://www.albrightoncommunityfridge.org/ I'm sure they would welcome them, but maybe check first, as they don't actually mention fresh fruit on their website? But apples aren't that perishable. Drop off seven days a week 9 - 5. Be warned if you are going by car, parking can be very difficult, easiest if there are two of you so one person can take the food in while the other can move the car if necessary.
