And for rag and bone man we now have lots of nice Eastern European men in large battered white vans ready to take metal goods from outside our houses.

Coal? Well it's still being delivered in London, although it's the smokeless variety and whilst its not the cleanest form of energy, stocks are now predicted to last until 2085.

I miss the 1980's. I would have loved to have been the age I am now back in 1985. I would have had a VW Golf and big shoulder pads on my double breasted suit. Drink/smoke my way through the day and still make a crust before driving home to my Soda Stream in my C5.

East Europeans, a bit of negative moaning. anyone want to tick the other boxes? Cycling, Cars , Traffic Lights Dog Mess, trees, Yummy Mummys. Noisy Partys? be nice to get them out of the way! Sorry almost forgot The Council wasting Money and one lot of Park Users moaning about another group of park users.

Foxy:

Polio. Common in many places.

Diphtheria. Ditto.

The Workhouse. Bangladesh, China,

Public Hanging. Iran.

Village Stocks. These are just plain lightweight compared to waterboarding and electrocution, so redundant !

Ducking Stools. Ditto

Witch Burning. Still prevalent in Orissa and West Bengal.

Thanks. I shall check out the shelves in the vasty orange halls of the overweening grocer at my earliest convenience and, should the information be reliable and the exercise be more than a futile ornament in the vapid catalogue of a broadly purposeless existence, report back accordingly.

What on earth are you blithering on about again TED? I was being factual. Not moaning. The rag and bone man still exists to save old bits of metal from landfill but just in a different demographic form (whatever that happens to be).

    • I'm posting a recommendation for our home cleaner Polly  Polly has been cleaning for us (near Lordship Lane), together with her partner Steven for the last 8+ years and they are excellent - efficient, careful, trustworthy and effective.   They now have a few spare slots on Fridays now as clients have moved away from the area. Please contact Polly directly on 07727 042636 if you're thinking of getting a cleaner! Or if you want to hear any more from me then do feel free to DM! Thanks
    • its based on the income  the [to be x] freeholder will lose - ie the ground rent and any service charges. Unless D Estate follows different laws to everybody else.
    • Hi everyone. I’m currently in the process of buying a house on the Dulwich Estate with ~86 years left on the lease. I’ve found it quite hard to get clear information online about the realistic cost of buying the freehold from the Dulwich Estate. I was wondering if anyone here has experience dealing with the Dulwich Estate and, if so, roughly how much it cost to purchase the freehold. I know it will vary depending on the property, but even a ballpark figure would be really helpful so we can decide whether the purchase makes sense for us. Thanks very much in advance.
    • It looks like a tap for the gas lighting that used to be found in those homes. The little tap would regulate the flow of gas to give a brighter or dimmer lamp. It's probably not part of any gas feed now and you can check that for yourself by following the gas pipework from your meter (which should only run to the kitchen to supply a boiler and cooker). Next time you have your boiler serviced, ask the engineer to have a look for you.
