Sainsbury's: eggs-cruciating experience!

Ahh, bless you Jeremy! It does all seem eggs-traordinary, doesn't it. But I'm afraid that's eggs-actly what this is turning into! This isn't about eggs or avocados or the price of cheese. It's about having to return things twice. And when one is hot - and hungry.

And Sue, being a yokel and having grandparents who kept hens, I therefore know about hens and eggs - that's why I'm wary. You've all read Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow. Well think of this as Buddug's Feeling for Eggs. And yes, Jessie, you're absolutely spot on! I will indeed check use by/display by dates from now on! Thanks for your advice! And no, I'm not hungry - sandwich was fab!

Dear Showboat - you say I'm not worth it. But actually, like you and everyone else, I am. I've been a customer at our lovely Dog Kennel Hill Sainsbury's for 17 years. They have the best staff there of any Sainsbury's. They're all such characters and work so hard. And I know most of them by name. I suppose I was just disappointed by my third visit with the eggs. I did big up the first manager, who went beyond the call of duty, I have to say, so that only made the second manager's attitude fall far short.

However, I'm now concentrating my focus on Syria, where far worse things are happening at the moment, lets face it. Do you think we all got a bit affected by the heatwave?

Oh wow. I mean, just...wow.

Even by forum standards that's a pretty sanctimonious post.

As I said, you asked a question, didn't like the answers you got, ignored or twisted other posts to suit your position, and then finally make that comment about Syria. Really? Childish.

Don't start something like this if you aren't prepared for people to disagree with you. It makes you look silly, which I somehow suspect you're not. Anyway, I'm done with this. Think what you like.

What showboat said!

blimey buddug - you're not the only person who has ever returned home from a supermarket to realise to their extreme irritation that stuff would be quickly out-of-date!(no excuses for avocado, you could have checked by squidging it first)

So instead, couldn't you have saved yourself time/money/petrol etc by (brace yourself) settling for a DIFFERENT sandwich filling on this occasion then telephone customer services afterwards to explain that you weren't happy and come to some arrangement for recourse next time you were in store?

the fact you drove back there not once but TWICE...beggars belief! As for that facetious remark about there being worse things to discuss such as Syria? WTAF?

So after shopping at Sainsburys for 17 years, should you not be an experienced shopper by now?

Experienced shoppers check the sell-by dates on everything, & know whether avocados are on their last legs (by feel & colour)

So no excuse really for eggs or avocado. Especially as eggs were not actually out-of-date.

You should be praising them for giving you the money back, not running them down.

If I'd been in the same position, I would have put the eggs in fridge & used them within next 7 days & put avocado in the bin & eaten something else instead.

Would I have gone all the way back to Sainsburys/posted about it on here?

No.

"earlier today I really felt like an avocado and cottage cheese sandwich, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper"

This is one of the most hilariously middle class things I've ever read in my life, and I'm hilariously middle class so I consider myself an expert in such matters.

I take that as a wonderful compliment ednewmy! (not sure if I should though, considering all the virulently angry OTT responses to my initial post from some of the usual set of playground bullies who infest this forum!) especially as I'm from a solidly working class background (one grandfather a bricklayer the other a quarryman, socialist father wore a donkey jacket etc) and have striven all my life to achieve middle-classness!

It looks like at last I've finally cracked it - talking of which....

Wow .... Really seems like people love to hid behind their computers and gang up, buddug, your entitled to feel mad, I bought some goats cheese when I was pregnant and just before tucking in realised it was 5 days out of date, given the fact that I was pregnant , they were very apologetic and gave me a ?5 gift card and money back which I was not expecting and was pleasantly surprised.

You have been a customer there for years and its not nice to be spoken to so rudely (manager 2) I'm not saying that you should have of more money back etc, but at least some politeness & empathy for the i confidence caused. I had one member of staff there be extremely rude and challenging when I waited for ages to use the baby changing and my son was crying and toddler needed toilet, and I could here him on the phone chatting away, then strolls out no apology nothing. And then had a stinking attitude problem when I said it was for customers with babies only. Thankfully I too know a lot of the staff there by 1st name terms and they are a lovely bunch of people, which is why I go back, despite moving nearer to the forest hill one!

I'm not a fan of bullying , so thought I'd let you know I got your back lol :)

Again with the inflation of bullying

No one started a thread complaining about buddug. That would be bullying

Buddug started a thread inviting people to say if she was wrong. People have said exactly that. In numbers

That puts buddug in a minority. But it's not bullying

Missse22: thank you so much for your support! I really appreciate it. You're so right about hiding behind computers. Would showboat, I wonder, 'shout' at me to my face (or anyone's for that matter) like he did in one of his posts? I think not. Would edcam have sneered from the get-go? Or strafer jack - whose last post implies a knowledge of me he simply doesn't have. Again I doubt it.

But if you read their previous posts you'll see that every thread they comment on turns bad, whatever the topic. And it always descends into personal insults from them. I tried throughout to maintain my sense of humour, but it was lost on them, either deliberately or otherwise.

I'm surprised they're still allowed on this site to be honest. They're just bullies, plain and simple - and they do it to everyone. You won't believe how many people locally say they're afraid to post on the forum because of this cabal.

Yes, I did ask at the beginning if I was being reasonable - probably because I was unsure, to be honest, due to the heat and my increasing fixation on needing a particular sandwich filling (I've turned into a grumpy old woman!) - but I didn't expect so much unleashed anger and personal abuse to follow! All I wanted really was to be treated with respect by the second manager - but she treated me as if I was just a chancer. All this nonsense from posters about out of date eggs not killing you - my point is that if you pay ?2-odd for eggs you eggspect (oops, sorry, can't help myself!) expect them to be fresh.

Sorry to hear about your problems with your little ones. As if it isn't hard enough! But most staff at dog kennel hill are great, as you said.

Thanks again missse22.

Re anonymity

Choose a pub ( pm me if you prefer)

I will buy the booze

You can bring along as many mates as you like. I will come alone if you prefer

But no one can accuse me of hiding behind a keyboard. Anyone who has wanted to meet me or take issue with me on here had always been able to do so to my face. I will happily argue everything I've said to you face to face

I suspect you won't take me up. You throw accusations about others around but I suspect you are the coward who wouldn't back up your online persona with a face to face

You probably won't like me any better, but you will see that I'm not what you accuse
