I thought Des Lynham chaired it more smoothly, intelligently, and less irritatingly, than the toe-curlingly shallow Des O'Connor.

I have resorted to watching without the benefit of sound, thanks to him.

Lynham was a big hit right from the start.

HonaloochieB who would you choose to chair the show(?)

I'm convinced the ratings must have declined with the recent incumbent.

I agree that Des O'Connorie is completely rotten. It doesn't make Lynham any better.

When I watched some of the shows he chaired he was stuttery, seemingly unable to grasp the rules and on at least two occasions appeared to forget Carol's name.

The main reason for my dislike of him is that he is seen in some quarters as a bit of a 'national treasure'. No he isn't, he's a chancer who got a bit lucky.

AS for who shuld chair Countdown? I'd go for someone who was apperenttly in the frame originally, Paul Merton. He's only funny on game shows these days and would bring a breath of some sort of air to the show.

...Vanessa Feltz and the apparent regard she is held in by some of her listeners.

Listener - "Hello 'V' great show as usual"

Feltz - "'Thank you, me me me me blah-de-blathery-blah' continues until all present have lost the will to live"

She even 'rags out' complimentary calls to be used as promotional idents for her show.

A complete merchant in my view.

The Candyman is of course a radio genius, as all right thinking people agree.

Thr last time I heard him he was referring to Feltz as Vanessa Redgrave.

Lynam.. lost the plot when he realised people thought he was good and appeared on TFI

Vanessa... well, she isn't Jon Gaunt

Candyman... Genius

Tessa Dunlop... needs higher profile. I might have a slight crush on her...

Joanne Good... mentalist but I perversely enjoy her shows

{changing channels now - to 6 music)

Natasha on weekend mornings... bliss

The candyman is without doubt a God....mornings have never been the same since he left (I always thought Baker on weekdays and Jackie Clune at the weekends aided my early days of courting immensely).

I like Feltz - I think she is warm and engaging and actually intelligent - and often wonder if people who criticise her formed their opinion whilst she on tv battling with a terrible format.

Joanne Good I enjoy and don't think the evening slot has ever recovered from her departure. But I loathe Paul Ross (is it Paul?) almost but not as much as Jono. Bring back Baylen or failing that even Max.

I have a soft spot for Eddie Nestor, and Sean - I too wonder if I have a crush on Tessa Dunlop.

No quesation about mornings not being the same without Danny Baker. I bought a portable radio just to listen to him on the way to work. Insultingly they replaced him with 'Jono' Coleman. I mean hell's bells what were these eedjits thinking?

Joanne Goode is only as good as her sidekick, which means it's OK when Paul Ross or Baylen Leonard are on, less so with Rowland Rivron.

I forgot about Kaff'n'Eddie. Agree about the gear change after Baker - but in truth - actual truth - his afternoon slot is a shadow of the morning show he had

Paul Ross and Rivron - hmmm - neither work as well as Baylen but at least Ross sometimes is able to add some factual ballast to some of Good's moments of randomness

But mention of Jono - dear God has anyone ever been more inept and embarrassing as a presenter. I might loathe Gaunt but at least he knows how to do what he does. Jono made me die a little every day

Baker is a god, and I'm not shy of picking up the phone for a chat every now and then, so keep listening. Just sublime, and Baylan is developing along nicely as the sidekick.

Must say, never hear it until about 3:02, JUST IN CASE I hear the god awfully irritating Robert "Professional Cockney" Elms. GOg he winds me up!

She is a dippy cow...does she no listen to half of what's being said in an interview?

It was horrible. He even made Jo Goode look slick and professional!

Maybe we should have an East Dulwich "Mobbing" on Candy man's show one day....

I quite like Elms though his views on the Beatles are a bit odd. I think the strength of his shows lies in the features and guests. I like the architect fellow Max he has on and at one point there was a female lexicographer who was interesting. He does a bus journey each week that is usually fun. His interviewing technique can be a bit hit and miss and he has an inexplicable fondness for the wrong side of the river but all in all I can listen to him more happily than some of the above. I get the impression there's not a lot of love lost between Elms and Baker though.

Has anyone ever called Danny and if so for what? The ones I can remember calling for are 'pipe smoking women' and 'Have you ever seen a rock star in reduced circumstances?' There were some others but I don't recall them. Did anyone used to luisten to him on Radio One on Saturdays and Sundays when he replaced the 'Hairy Cornflake' DLT. I remember the first show when his opening words were 'This show is brought to you courtesy of the letters DLT and the numbers 150,000'

I'm sure you were good value indeed. Although I've been doing a little badmouthing of Jo Goode, though since the whole Mott The Hoople revelation I've had a Damascene conversion and I may well make her my wife. I just remebered I did once win a prize of a boxset of Coronation St DVDs when I phoned her and the aforementioned Coleman. Former Baker sidekick Mark O'Donnell was there doing the show through gritted teeth I think. I won because I recognised the performer of a 'rap' song was former ITV newsreader Reggie Bosanquet. Mark gave me lots of info about Bosanquets father most of which I've forgotten, but I'm pretty sure he invented the googly. Does that sound right?

Any way my mum enjoyed the DVDs. So that's all right then.

    • Malumbu, you're absolutely right. The vet bills due to attacks on neighbouring cats are certainly not insignificant at all. The wounds can even lead to fatalities. I always urge clients, neighbours & community posters to target the root cause, as opposed to skirting around the underlying & often persistent issue. Connecting with local organisations like Celia Hammond Animal Trust, Cats Protection or Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiatives is a longterm solution. This is heighlighted, although briefly, under Improving Community Wellbeing. - I'd also like to highlight that if ever unsure whether the culprit is intact, owned or feral, & are hesitant to report, just in case it's a neighbour's neutered cat, you can call upon a Scan Angel or our team at TWB to check for a microchip first. - If the culprit does happen to be a neighbour's neutered cat, there are a variety of solution; both immediate & longterm that I would be more than happy to help with. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected]
    • Also wanted to leave my recommendation for Lukasz. He came completely on time, was highly efficient, did everything we asked and more without charging extra and left the place immaculate. A real gem - we will definitely use him again!
    • Not sure if you added Tomd that have not been neutered terrorising other cats in the area.  Happened round here.  Would have been tempted to castrate the tom if I'd caught it.  Water pistol was not a deterrent.  Vets bills due to various attacks on other moggies was not insignificant
    • That's good news. I saw that DVillage is also being renovated. Now the pavement in front is wider and flatter with the recent works, they'll have a nice setup indoors and outdoors.
