What's odd EP is that some fans dislike of another team appears to be greater than their liking for their own team.

Coming from a United fan that's rich. And if you read my post properly, hard I know with the red mist in your eyes, but I do mention our performance against the orcs. As for inferior, what I saw yesterday was very inferior by your team. Here's one just for you. What's the difference between Prince Andrew and United? Andrew has never regretted parting with Fergie.

And if you read my post properly you'll see that I said it's odd that Aresnal fans comment on Utd before commenting on their own team...which is exactly what you did.

A bit odd this has all kicked off (albeit on a small scale)

When I posted yesterday it was zilch to do with Arsenal and entirely to do with remembering the (cheekily!) dismissive post of red devil a couple of weeks back when I said Man Utd wouldn't win anything this year

I have no idea why he has become so quick to talk about chips on shoulders or whatever but from my perspective

start of season = time to talk about who will won't win the league

Any team that has dominated 20 years + change of pivotal figure = keen interest from fans of other clubs wondering if the king is dead, boy

It's scant comfort to teams who haven't won anything for years (people really should point that out more btw) but after years of Man Utd fans being... bullish about their success it's surely obvious that when they show cracks in the hull, people will take an unusual interest

I wouldn't take it personally RD - it really is as simple as that. And if there is something wrong with that then I will happily listen. But sounding a bit like a 20 stone momma on Jerry Springer repeatedly yelling "you jus' jeeeaaallous! us' jeeeaaallous! us' jeeeaaallous! " isn't that cool

Agree with that. SAF once talked about knocking Liverpool off their perch, and he did it and I bet a lot of fans of various clubs enjoyed watching it.

Man U have owned that perch ever since, and of course people are going to wnjoy watching then struggle to stay on it, it's human nature.

That and the fact a lot of United fans (usually from London or Ireland) have gloated so much over the years (as if they personally have achieved something) that it will be nice to stick two fingers up to some of them.

Where are you from: Ireland

Why do you support them: Well I suppose I was a glory hunter (before the term was ever used) but in a time where I couldn't go to games and the only football I saw was the Big Match (with poor reception) and MOTD, when United won the European Cup in 68 I was converted. This was mainly due to Georgie Best and the genius that he was.I stuck with them through relegation and the barren years.

Where are you from: London

Why do you support them: I was late getting in to football, wasn't interested as a kid (and would have probably said I supported Arsenal if asked, because my dad and my school friends did). In my late teens I started taking more of an interest leading in to Euro 96 and I lijed Fowler, Macca, and co. Then I moved to Liverpool and you can't really escape it once you're there.

At least I can say I wasn't a glory hunter, I started supporting them long after the glory days. The champs league 2005 was an amazing night though.

Where are you from: Spain but did a lot of growing up here.

Why do you support them: Because my big brother did. Stevenage because it was accessible and fun even if the town itself is a hole.

Reason: when I were a boy, it was a team of mostly Irish players with an Irish manager. Everyone else in my town supported Liverpool or man utd but I liked the kit, london and Irish players so....

Where from: Coventry

Reason: Father not a footy fan so no familial tradition, Mother actually worked at Highfield Road (Coventry City's ground) as did I as a teenager and young man so they always felt like 'work'*. Schoolmate introduced me to the Irons and the three cups in three years story at the time me and my brothers were 'choosing' teams (you know, FA cup in 64, Cup Winners in 65, World Cup in 66). My bros went for Liverpool and Chelsea at the time but changed over the years and now support Bristol City and Spurs respectively, I was sold on Bobby Moore and Pop Robson.

*Worked as a pie seller (walking around pitch) as did my bros - one of whom was once whistled off-side by a ref during a very foggy game against Wolves in a case of mistaken identity - we wore sky blue jackets that were exactly the same shade as the Cov. shirts - we were sent off and had to remove the jackets before we could go out again (it was on Star Soccer that Sunday too!)

Reason: Jimmy Greaves. My boyhood idol. A goal scoring genius. My family, uncles and cousins were all Crystal Palace fans but as soon as I saw Jimmy banging them in for Spurs and England that was it for me and I've supported them for as long as I can remember.

Why I support them: Being a footie fan since my teens (was a Notts F fan during Cloughies reign), never had the chance to go to a match until I moved here.

It just so happened to be Millwall. One bite & I was hooked!

I know we are not Premiership, but our day will come.

Doesn't look like it will be yet.....

But hopefully in my lifetime!

Reason: as a kid I played football, a lot, and watched it a lot, however it wasn't until I was 18 and left home after getting my first job that I chanced upon East Ham, suddenly Saturdays had a meaning, that was curry roll, chips, a splif, a few pints and ?5 well spent for the melee of the South bank.

Oh but you did make it personal SJ. Your original post was aimed directly at me, not Utd fans in general.

It's all about context and timing. You can try and dress it up as some off-the-cuff, whimsical, Proustian memory* ? la recherche du temps perdu, but the reality was that even with about 25mins** to go in the match, your excitable sweaty hands couldn't wait to hit that keypad.
