Team supported: Leeds United (1989-2012)

Where from: Surrey

Reason: The first footie kit I was given was a lovely second hand polyester number in 1970s yellow by an Aunt. Coincided with the club's promotion from old Div2 to Div1 and subsequent championship win. A roller coaster ride over the following 20 years ensued.


Footnote: The relationship ended recently. No final straw per se and it's with football as a whole and not just Leeds. All of it got to me. The vulgar sums of money; the chanting I'd be ashamed to let my son hear if I were ever to take him; the poor role models that the majority of footballers make; endemic homphobia/sexism; racism at my own club; poor sportsmanship; etc etc. I just couldn't be bothered to care any more. But I liked this little meme enough that I wanted to contribute. Hope that's ok.

Teamm supported: Rangers


Where from: No where really - born in Cyprus to Scottish parents (Forces brat), lived in Wiltshire, Gloucester, Dumfries, Glasgow, Carlisle, London and now the USA.


Reason: Old man was a Rangers/Liverpool man but I didn't really follow either initally - from the earliest I can remember I was a huge Spurs fan... up until 1994/95 when we moved north of the border and was finally exposed to the craziness that is the Old Firm. Didn't really support Rangers until season 97/98 when they were stopped by Celtic winning 10 in a row.

Still route for Spurs, but Rangers are my number 1.

Having the full footie kit was quite the thing back in the day.

I was the only kid in my class at school to have one.

I had to go to the sports shop to choose an iron on transfer number.

Needless to say the No. 7 was out of stock, so had to make do with Our Bobby's No. 9...

Yeah, I got the full thing too. Yellow top, yeloow shorts with blue trim and yellow socks. Something like the attached.

The new concept quickly caught on and while kits supplied to the clubs were well made, using natural fibres and embroidered detailing, those sold to the public were manufactured as cheaply as possible in nylon with heat-applied plastic logos that broke up after a few washes. These cheaply made replicas were sold at two or three times the price of the generic copies that preceded them and became must-have items for the nation's young fans, proudly worn on the school playing field and at the weekend kick about in the park.

Reason: My Dad and his dad were football mad Geordies transplanted to Ipswich who decided to support the local club. They took me to my first game aged 6, season 74-75, the early days of the Robson glory years, then to almost every home league game, plus cup ties, European games and a various away games until about ten years later when a Saturday job and a girlfriend intervened, but by then the die was cast.

Four-nil away to Villa. Eight changes to the side that played against Cardiff on Sunday. Three games in six days and Jermain Defoe has scored six goals in three games. That's a fantastic response from him after losing out to Soldado in the Premiership. That's not bad is it? I really hope we can keep this form going against Chelski at White Hart Lane at the weekend. Can't wait to take my seat there early Saturday afternoon. COYS!

      Contact admin? If you click on your name, they are showing as having been posted in the For Sale section, but as you say, they are not there. Could you have accidentally deleted them?

      Just a quick post to say that my restaurant reviews column is now one year old. There are 45 reviews here* - mostly of local places (some sadly now defunct, others thriving). There are a couple of recipes from a period when I couldn't afford to eat out, a couple of moans about my health when I couldn't eat out on doctor's orders and a couple of reviews beyond our manor. But the main thing is that it is a free, useful guide to local dining and, I hope, an entertaining read. You can, of course, pay to subscribe or follow for free to get the reviews directly into your inbox as I don't want to spam EDF with every review (doctor says I'm not allowed spam anyway). The pictures below come from my two most popular reviews - Persepolis (new SE22 spin-off opening soon) and Norbert's, a great addition to East Dulwich.       I'd like to recommend Andy - came out very last minute to help us with a rental property that was having plumbing issues. We couldn't source the problem but Andy was able to find it / fix it easily & took the stress out of the problem.       If you're looking for a reasonably priced gym, there are a couple of PureGyms not too far away in Camberwell and Peckham. They're less than £20 a month with no joining fee. If you're looking to get fitter and / or lose weight, and you don't have any mobility issues, then download the coach to 5k app and start running. It's by far the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to improve your cardiovascular fitness and it's great for clearing your head!
