charlie chuckles
I'm fair skinned and I'm going on holiday in a couple of weeks. I don't want to look like a milk bottle on the beach so I'm biting the metrosexual bullet and thinking of getting myself some fake tan. I've heard that johnsons do a good one that just gives a gentle tan. Can anybody give me some tips on this kind of thing? ChavWivaLawDegree
avoid the dove one as it goes streaky and put some body lotion on at first so it spreads better. Don't do your ankles! Ladygooner
exfoliation is the key - and then moisturise. Body shop used to do a nice one Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3539-fake-tan/#findComment-110654 Share on other sites
Strawbs
I dont like the Johnson one but the dove one is brilliant, I am using it at the moment and if you use it daily up until you go on hols it will give you a great colour albeit they have added little sparkly bits in it (not that noticeable) so not sure if your metrosexualness will stretch that far..One tip - ALWAYS ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER APPLICATION - or you end up with funny coloured hands and its a dead give away...Good luck!p.s. or if all else fails book in for a st tropez and ask for a light tan Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3539-fake-tan/#findComment-110656 Share on other sites
Asset
I'd go for the St Tropez, much less likely to be a streaky nightmare Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3539-fake-tan/#findComment-110659 Share on other sites

charlie chuckles
I'm sorry guys.I hang my head in shame. I never thought I'd see the day when I would turn into such a nancy boy. Having said all that, can anyone reccommend a salon in East Dulwich that does a good fake tan? benjaminty
you're going on holiday and you will be sunbathing right? hence your worry about looking like a lobster? Wouldn't you be better off having a few light sunbeds to start your colouring.... then sit in the sun with a bit more colour and then less risk of burning? just an idea ...... I'm expecting to get shot down by those that are knowledgeable ... Strawbs
My 2p worth Sundbeds are a quick way to give yourself cancer and if you are lily white you run a high risk of burning.. I would absolutely get a fake tan rather than sunbed, expose yourself normally (and I dont mean 'expose yourself') to the sun the next couple of weekends and you will be fine. Fake Tan now and then sunbathe with sunscreen - less cancer and minimal burn.. Oh and Charlie - dont let those naughty boys bully you - skin cancer and sunbeds are sooooooooo out and fake tans and healthy longer living people are in! You are making the right choice.. RosieH
Quite so, a couple more things:- if you are new to fake tan, you might not realise that it doesn't offer any sun protection (in the way that a real tan does) so you still need the same high factor as if you were milk bottle white- i find St Tropez can be a bit full on for really pale people - don't know how pale you are but I heartily recommend Clarins if you're fair- i really would pay someone else to do it. It's tricky to do your own back (all well and good if you have someone to do it for you, but do you really trust them not to give you streaks?)Embrace your metrosexuality and ignore the naysayers - you'll be looking gorgeous and lithe Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3539-fake-tan/#findComment-110704 Share on other sites
Ant
Embrace your milky pallor more like it! Learn to love the skin you're in and all that. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3539-fake-tan/#findComment-110763 Share on other sites
RosieH
tsk now Ant: milky pallor may be a wow down the Lit and Deb society, but not such a hit at the beach volleyball (also if we all adhered to this maxim, ladies would never wax and my hair would be a dowdy shade of mouse. Nowt wrong with a bit of aesthetic enhancement) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3539-fake-tan/#findComment-110772 Share on other sites
jumpinjackflash
Charlie Chuckles - get yourself down to Beauty Plus on Forest Hill Rd. Ask them for their Naturasun spray tan. It comes in a range of shades and they spray it on you with a gun. It's brilliant and does not streak. If you don't want a salon experience, then get yourself some St Tropez - prob the only one that does not streak or look orange. Remember to exfoliate and then moisturise first though!Good luck! Asset
Quite, and I find all the slightly homophobic joky responses a little worrying no? Let's not forget the last thread where accusations of homophobia got a little out of control. jumpinjackflash
I think you do have to shave but but ring the salon to find out - number is 020 8299 0030. Re fake tan coming off in sea, you'll have caught a natural tan by then anyway so it won't matter!
