This year people are conserving them, - whole country is short of pollinating insects, and wasps form a significant proportion. They will go by themselves when the frosts start, they all die except for a few next-season queens who go off and hibernate in dead trees etc.

Also in the base of such nests hoverfly larvae reach maturity, e.g. Volucella Pellucens

Hoverflies are highly valued insects in gardens.

I'm afraid I cannot muster any positive feelings towards wasps given my mother's life threatening allergy to them. It is therefore pretty much hard wired in me that wasps = risk of death, and thus are to be avoided and gotten rid of as quickly and safely as possible.

My parents have had 3 nests in the eaves of their house dealt with already this summer. This is away in Shropshire however, so I can't recommend anyone locally, but I know they use the local council service which has always been very good. Not sure if Southwark offer something similar.

Yep, despite fl0wer's good intentions, it's not realistic to expect people to put up with a wasps nest on their property. Kill 'em.

I used "Abal Pest Control Services" (google them) to get rid of a wasps nest in the loft when I bought my current flat. I've also used K&O pest control to get rid of mice, and I know they do wasps nests too.

we used them two weeks ago too, they put down this powder which they eat and then die, so its not smoking them out or anything similar..... ours was in the bay window roof, and they were coming into the house all the time, by baby nearly got stung because he sat down on the couch and just as he was sitting down, two of them flew off.... I know how important they are to the cycle of nature, and normally I would have left it, but my two year old has to come first this time ..... good luck and I hope you find someone...

    • Also, as discussed on another thread, that particular  assailant was possibly (we don't know)  mentally ill. Whereas I'm guessing most crimes locally are   committed for money, (ie things that can be sold), food (if someone is really desperate, or to sell) or just pure mischief (like the recent goings on on Peckham Rye).
    • No it is not, it is a fact whether you like it or not. Do you feel safe on the streets, because I don't, do you go too central London, I don't as I don't feel safe. No one knows if someone is i) carrying a weapon or a knife and ii) you don't know what will trigger them to use it. So feel free to live in your bubble, but the reality is London is lawless and the police stand by and do nothing.
    • Leon responded quickly to my online enquiry and to follow-up texts when arranging a date for the work. He replaced a faulty switch for my outdoor sensor light. I expected it would be difficult to find an electrician willing to take on such a small job. So I was really pleased to find Leon and would definitely recommend him.
    • I would not use anyone else, he now does my son and daughters boiler services and my own. He recently replaced a very old boiler and it all went well with a year guarantee.  Such a lovely person to deal with too. Very good value for money!  I couldn’t recommend him more highly.
