EatLessBread
Just means a shed load of family politics, another year of convincing the inlaws to NOT spend a fortune on presents that are never used, breaking the news to my folks that it's my turn to be with my hubbie and his lot rather than the other way round, wtf to buy an 11 year old and ........agh, no, definately not excited for Xmas!!!!Won't say no to a mince pie, though...... rosendale
I am also very exciting , but the only problem is when we are in christmas day, nobody respect this precious time, every body likes to get drunk and forget what christmas is all about.for many peoples christmas is time for shopping ,but the real christmas time is to remember when jesus was bourn . aquarius moon
Christmas is only great if you have loads of money for presents & loads of money for food shopping. If you don't, where is the pleasure in wanting to buy certain things for people & not being able to?Where is the pleasure in seeing all the fancy christmas stuff in the supermarket & only being able to do your normal weekly shop?Where is the pleasure in running up an even bigger credit card bill? For people struggling to make ends meet, christmas isn't exciting, it's an absolute nightmare :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35905-christmas/#findComment-676010 Share on other sites

You could say alternatively that Christmas is a time to celebrate family and friendship. Doesn't require huge expense - that's social pressure but it's not an immutable rule. womanofdulwich
We have relatives coming from Australia, the first time for 13 years. I am really excited. All the presents will be edible/drinkable, and there will be one present each as in secret santa style. It will be great, we will go on walks, play games eat and drink ,share memories, squeeze in a midnight mass- I am SO excited. We will not eat out it will not be much more expensive than another week, other than we will have 2 birthdays.Bring it on I say :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35905-christmas/#findComment-676064 Share on other sites

So are most things in life, but it is more noticeable at christmas.I raised my children as a single parent. Yes, it's social pressure, but try telling children that Santa Claus isn't coming because he is broke! So, you borrow on cards to make sure your children get a great christmas & you spend the next few years paying it back!Although my children have now grown up, my financial cicumstances haven't changed, so christmas is still nothing to look forward to, let alone get excited about.Presents don't require huge expense? No, but any expense is a struggle if you don't have the money.Christmas is wonderful for those who can afford it & I'm happy that they are looking forward to it.I, personally, am not! jcrwillcox
To me its about being around people that you love, & people that love you (knowing families I know they are not always the same!) friends, family, neighbours, pets, etc , and yes I know Im very lucky to have the above as some people don't. and seeing the coca cola advert on for the first time! ok I hate the phrase 'holidays are coming' but it does give me a smile !
