Lewisham admissions pack much more useful than the Southwark one...anyone know how to find out the furthest distances offered for Southwark secondaries including within each band...hard to be realistic with choices when the information is not given to make that decision! The Lewisham pack is much ,ore transparent giving you figures, broken down in bands. As a result I can see which ones it is not worth looking at and those that are a possibility..

Renata and James if you are reading this can you suggest it to the powers that be....their rejection letters are also much more transparent making the process seem fair even if it is not the news you want.

Hi Cora,

the Southwark and Lewisham admissions systems are a little different. Lewisham has some LA run secondaries, all of Southwark's are either academies or voluntary aided (faith). Lewisham therefore has a banding test sat by it's pupils in year 6 for several secondary schools. It therefore can publish the outcome in terms of bands for this. Some other schools (eg the Aske's Federation ones) have separate tests, but however have made their banding results freely available, so therefore, these could be integrated into the Lewisham booklet. Southwark used to have a Southwark banding test, which Southwark year 6 pupils sat. This was abandoned about 5 years ago as more and more of the Southwark (non-LA) secondary schools wanted to run their own banding tests (so it now means that if you apply to several Southwark schools, you child may need to sit several non-verbal reasoning tests in November/December).

This is also why in the letters to Lewisham parents, the information on your distance in relation to the last place offered distance can be given.

Do go and see as many schools as you can. It is advisable to put down six schools in order of preference (putting down one or two schools does not increase your chance of getting one of those schools and increases the risk that the LA will allocate you a school, rather than one of your choosing). Schools do not know the order of preference. You will be offered a place at the highest ranked school on your list that can offer you a place in accordance to their admissions criteria.

If you are offered a school that is low down on your list or is allocated by your LA, you will be on the waiting list for your higher ranked schools. There is quite a lot of movement on these lists between National Offer Day and September.

She is barely in touch with reality     I mean: WTF is she on about here:   https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/kemi-badenoch-lunch-breaks-are-for-wimps-and-sandwiches-are-not-real-food/
    • In the past there has been a spate of thefts like this  around days like Mother's Day. I had all mine stolen once, recently planted up. When I phoned my insurance company, they would only pay out for the window boxes, not the plants and compost, so I didn't bother pursuing it. The police said there had been lots of similar reports. I now chain mine to the window sills.
