Hi all

My little boy, seven weeks, was diagnosed with tongue tie last week and had the snip on Monday. I can already see a massive difference in the mobility of his tongue, he can stick it out nicely now, however I'm not yet seeing any difference with feeding and am having a lot of pain in my right nipple. He just doesn't seem t be able to open his mouth nice and widely to latch on properly, which I guess may be related to not being able to earlier because of the tongue tie. It's been suggested that I take him for osteopathy to see if they can work out any tension that may be stopping him from opening his mouth widely. Has anyone had a similar site in and tried osteopathy? Any recommendations on where to go?

Any advice would be great as I really would like to keep feeding but the pain is pret unbearable...

Thanks!

I went to the Osteopathic centre for children which is in Wandsworth. It's a charity so you basically donate what you can afford so although it's not local it's definitely worth a look if you can get there.

To be honest I was fairly sceptical initially but a friend took her son who could only turn his head in one direction after a forceps delivery. This was causing its own issues with feeding which were immediately resolved after a trip to the osteopath. With this in mind, and the attitude of "at worst it does nothing" I took my daughter along. She was having reflux-type issues with feeding, and was really struggling to pass very soft breastmilk stools. The change in her demeanour and head shape (after a few visits) was remarkable so although my issues were different to yours I would definitely say it is worth a try. Even my TOTAL sceptic of a partner was impressed when her head changed shape and now asks me when her next appt is!

I used Katie Sedgwick on Landcroft Road for the same thing (following recommendations on here). She was fab, all sorted in a few sessions.

Also used the OCC for my first child -they were great but further afield so less convenient for my 2nd child.

Good luck!

Another recommendation for Lizzie at Dulwich Therapy Rooms!

We went through exactly what you describe, but three or four sessions with Lizzie sorted my little one right out. Lizzie was really good at explaining the physiology to me - how the tongue tie effected the jaw movement - which I found useful. And it was lovely seeing my baby being able to open wide for a textbook latch at long last!

Good luck with it.

If Lizzie booked up try Elaine (tho she equally popular but I had to reschedule my appt today at 10.30 so you might get lucky)... She is fab and They both worked / trained at the OCC which is like the Mecca for baby osteos! I went there first time round when it was in clerkenwell and they were amazing. The key is to get an appt with someone good ASAP as its the feeling of helplessness that I found hardest

Good luck

    • I've found it quite a useful thread.  Apparently protein powders are toxic. Not that I have ever, or will ever, try them.   https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/the-hidden-dangers-of-protein-powders
    • Personally can’t stand carpets however where I am renting has carpet in  bedroom and hall. Not great quality and certainly not cleaned. Was  in B & M recently and looking at carpet shampoo -wow got a can costing £2.99 to test.. No scrubbing as others seemed to imply. Spray, leave and poof - smells great, no dabbing or scrubbing and c leaving rubbish. First to admit is only temp solution but no need to hire carpet cleaner instantly  or pay for a company to come and deal with professionally. For 3/6 months happy to have used this - Have a carpet cleaner and in a month or so plan to use it.    Buy a steam cleaner for floors - not expensive - much better than mop and bucket and more hygienic all round. Can pick up second hand ones on e bay.
    • Is this a true story? What protein powder causes kidney damage? Why didn't you cite an article? I shop at H&B, mostly to buy their castor oil, however, I would recommend researching any product beforehand. They do have very informative articles on their website. To be honest, I don't see the point of this post. You could have just taken the product back for a refund or complained in store and in writing.
    • Well the Italian on Lordship Lane  recommended here was delicious.  Thank you so very much -my party were extremely pleased with ambience, location and lovely food plus puddings to die for. They are also on Deliveroo.  Will certainly be back when I am back in 6 weeks time. Went past Love Dulwich at lunchtime on my way to Italian - only a party of 2 - food might be excellent but decided to give it a miss - wasn’t impressed with manager who admitted he had only been there 2 weeks. Might be being totally unfair but doubt it, as no comments since about a month ago from Pugwash.
