I was most impressed by the new farmers' market in Horniman Gardens this morning. Week one and they already had really good and reasonably priced fruit and veg, nice meat, bread and cheese stalls and some very appealing specialist stalls for cake, muffins pasta etc. One of the stallholders said it's on Saturday mornings weekly until at least Christmas to see how it goes - let's hope it get lots of local support and flourishes!

Logically, ScotsLass, maybe not. But these things seem to go together like chickens and fair isle and artisan cheese and carved wooden blocks.

Which of course could be utilised in the slicing of cheese.

Not judging in any way. Not being cynical in any other way. Merely BEING in A way.

It's all gravy baby!!! I will have to see if I can find out any info, might be a good one for me.

"If you are interested in becoming a stallholder at the Horniman Farmers' Market, please email

....from the Horniman website, which also gives a list of current stalls http://www.horniman.ac.uk/visit/events/horniman-farmers-market

I agree - a great Saturday morning family activity. Such a lovely location and plenty to keep the kids amused - outdoor musical instruments, farm animals etc... and of course the museum itself if it rains. The market is small but hopefully it will grow in time, and there is a great (and cheap) veg stall.

Free parking at Sainsbury's Forest hill for 2 hours - just walk up the hill.

If you have a hankering for Halloween bring the little ones along tomorrow, there will be all sorts of fun activities during the day in and around the museum, and we will be there to paint the faces of all those who dare to come and see us at the food market, just listen for the sound of my vintage music being played on my wind up gramophones, might even have a couple of scary tunes too!!! If you are good us Aunties will let you have a lollipop, if you are still looking for a halloween outfit for the little ones we will have some surplus ones from our dressing up box going really cheap (all as good as new and laundered. Do come along and see how scary we are, or try and scare us!!!!!

The Aunties

Calling all new market-visiting dog walkers.

The Horniman has a lovely spacious designated dog exercise area of grass, just below the market terrace.

Dogs are NOT permitted in the wild woodland area between the lower footpath and Wood Vale, which is a nature reserve. There are so few genuinely wild bits of London we can forget how protective we need to be.

Please circulate the info, or the management will lock the gates again.

Thanks in advance for understanding and co-operation.

    • Everyone gets the point that Corbynites try to make with the "total number of votes cast" statistic, it's just a specious one.  In 2017, Corbyn's Labour got fewer votes than May's Tories (both the percentage of votes and aggregate number of votes). In 2019, Corbyn's Labour fewer votes than Johnson's Tories (both the percentage of votes and aggregate number of votes); and he managed to drop 2.7 million votes or 6.9% of vote share between the two elections. I repeat, he got trounced by Boris F***ing Johnson and the Tories after the Brexit omnishambles. It is not true that a "fairer" electoral system would have seen Labour beat the Tories: Labour simply got fewer votes than the Tories. Corbyn lost twice. There is no metric by which he won the general election. His failure to win was a disaster for the UK, and let Johnson and Truss and Sunak into office. Corbynites have to let go of this delusion that Corbyn but really won somehow if you squint in a certain way. It is completely irrelevant that Labour under Corbyn got more votes than Labour under Starmer. It is like saying Hull City was more successful in its 2014 FA Cup Final than Chelsea was in its 2018 FA Cup Final, because Hull scored 2 goals when Chelsea only scored 1. But guess what - Chelsea won its game and Hull City lost. Corbyn's fans turned out to vote for him - but an even larger group of people who found him repellant were motivated enough to show up and vote Tory.
    • I guess its the thing these days to demonstrate an attitude, in this instance seemingly of the negative kind, instead of taking pride in your work and have standards then 🤷‍♀️
    • Nope, I'd just get on with my day and forget about it. And I wouldn't report them on the basis that they might spill my coffee in the future.  However the OP seems to think that this young woman is deliberately pushing her bell, slamming her gate etc, having repeatedly been asked not to. I'd wager the woman is a bit pee'd off and there's a bit of a stand-off going on. Best course of action is to go out, take the parcel, smile sweetly, say hello, tell her you hope she's having a nice day / staying cool etc, in a way that comes across as genuine and not pass-agg,  and to let it diffuse. Might find it calms down a bit.  But I like the girl hate the idea of her being denigrated on here when she works so hard.
