I know what alachlan means though. I love pretty traditional and all the lovely things it sells and the staff are for the most-part delightful but, umm, how to put this....

....they aren't afraid to give you the stuff from the bottom of the bag to get rid of it.

Partly it's due to the fact that it isn't self service like many greengrocers so you get little choice of what veg you get and what condition it's in.

However, it doesn't happen often and like bawdy-nan I think it's one of the best shops around.

Whenever I've had anything from them that has been less than lovely I've mentioned it to Chris (who keeps an eagle eye on whats being sold when he's there and won't let anything wilty leave in a brown paper bag). I've always had an apology and a replacement. It happens to me very very rarely and we shop there every week.
don't get me wrong, it is a great shop, but as a few other people have also noted - sometimes you get the dregs and it seems to happen more often recently, even when the boxes are full of stuff... you can't inspect all the stuff they put in the bags!
I have also experienced the 'bottom of the bag' syndrome, though usually only for the odd potato/onion. However on Thursday we bought 4 nectarines (straight into paper bag etc). When we opened them at home - completely rotten, as in 50% brown/green. Hard to see how anyone could have mistakenly done it, unless really rushed/no knowledge whatsoever of fruit. Returned them this morning - offered a replacement, asked for refund, got it - no quibbles. Therefore it is both a positive and negative story I guess and I will continue with Pretty Trad for the time-being as they are mostly good.

the site in Kennington has long been a restaurant graveyard - I saw several reviews for Franklins when it opened there which praised it handsomely whilst worried about it's future for that very reason (and this was back in the "good old days")

I wouldn't worry about the LL location. The grocers maybe (although I quite like it)

    • I go there quite regularly (don't ask), on my own behalf and as a chauffeur for family. I have never noted people parking up, going in and then straight out again once registered. Some times of day (and some days) are much busier than others, as you might expect, especially during winter vaccination season.
    • There are a lot of car parking spaces - in order for them to all be filled, it would suggest a local event rather than unrelated shoppers. Does the surgery have records of when the it's full? presume there is some sort of management of it. Perhaps there is a correlation to local activity or a pattern.
    • Does anyone have a compost  bin or 2 they would part with? Prefer the plastic ones that are easier to transport. Thanks
    • I think there needs to be better oversight of this carpark, if it is being misused. A few large fines might help....
