Negative but true, Peckham was/is nasty and is East Dulwich is far from "lovely". I also owned a shop in Peckham for 7 years which simply reinforced my belief the place was a hole.

What's your point?

"Dulwich Deanery

Rev Canon Charles Richardson

The parishes of this small Deanery, stretching from South Peckham to beyond Dulwich Village

Even if at one time, East Dulwich stretched in to what is now Peckham, boundaries change. You are the only person in 2013 that uses CofE Parishes to define borders.

SE15 is Peckham. Everyone except for you basically gets that. You shouldn't be ashamed John, embrace your Peckham roots!

Parkdrive, do you really think so? I honestly think East Dulwich is lovely! Out of interest, why do you think otherwise? And don't you think there are some nice bits of Peckham? What were your experiences of owning a shop there?

Ah so edhistory lives in SE15? Honestly, the lengths some people will go to in order to claim they live in East Dulwich, heehee!

    • Because of the weather which delayed completion with roofer only being able to work certain days, it was up from November - end of January. Went slightly higher than gutters (we also had guttering replaced).
    • It's tough being a courier and the pay which is largely based on the number they deliver is miserable. Hence the staff turnover is high. EFRI was previously branded as HERMES but they had to create a new brand name because of poor performance. We get regular courier deliveries and EVRI are by far the worst. They just drop the parcel at the front door - often without ringing the bell. But worst is when they deliver to the equivalent door number on LL instead of ours on EDG. Best are ParcelForce, DHL and DPD by a wide margin.
    • I know the couple you mean, and she has always been friendly and smiley when delivering to me, but obviously in a hurry, for all the reasons outlined in the thread. My gate is always open, however (unless someone coming to the house closes it when they leave). I can't see the point of gates that have to be opened and shut again every time someone comes to the house. It just seems a waste of time, and it's annoying if you are carrying stuff. And a closed gate  conveys a sort of "my house is my fortress" feel. To me, anyway.
    • Thanks for posting this. Really interesting. It would be good if you added a star rating, so that it was easier to do comparisons / see what your top recommendations are. Great blog though!
