Cabs to Gatwick

I used Herne Hill cabs to Gatwick for one morning flight - they were ace and got me there on time - I'd slept in, so literally only had time to panic and ring them, they came immediately and I got there before the check in closed!! Whew!! Think it was about ?38 or so!

Can't comment on the train, although mum has done the Forest Hill to East Croydon with no problems! It was easier than the Gatwick express!

Sorry - I didn't know what they were called, just that they were in Herne Hill, and now on googling, I see that there are a few cab companies there.

They are literally next door to the station as you come out. The guy on the switch there, Gerry, is local to here. I've not had to use them in ages though!

I do the trip regularly, and get the 176 at Dulwich Library to East Croydon station and then the train to Gatwick.

Takes approx 1hr 10 min, which is pretty much the same time as a cab and a LOT cheaper. 1 oyster bus ticket and ?4.90 for the train.

The bus leaves from 4.45am approx onwards.

You do the trip regularly ? Really ?

The 176 does not go to East Croydon.

I am sure that bcam really mean't the 197. Goes from the same stop and drops you outside of East Croydon stn. That said, I've never taken the bus all the way to Croydon. I fly from Gatwick quite regularly and find a quick option is: 1) Bus to Forest Hill (10-15 mins max) 2) train from F'Hill to E.Croydon (15 mins) 3) train from EC to Gatwick (15 mins or so). With a bit of pre-planning through National Rail's web site/app and/or the City Mapper app to coordinate train and bus times, It's quite easy to do in under an hour - and under a tenner.

I got the bus to forest hill the other day. There are not always direct trains to East Croydon, but you can get train to Norwood Junction and hop on train to East Croydon from there. Took just over a hour to Gatwick, all in all.

The other poster re the bus probably did mean the 197, have done that coming back from East Croydon.

I normally use Keen Group, they are fantastic, puntual, never missed a flight. I do travel very often abroad, and this cab company do deliver. Most important, all their mini cab drivers are registered, and company is based in South London but do service all London.

Should anyone need them 02086931000. They charge to Gatwick around ?50, but cheap does not mean reliable.

    • It’s literal.  There are levels of earners. Those who don’t work and get benefits, those who work and get benefits, those who work but don’t get benefits. now, it’s an assumption that the last group are all wealthy, but that’s not the case. People in this last group are most exposed.. private rent, higher tax brackets, cost of living increases, yet they pay the most tax, and get no help.    So many questions: why are workers needing to be subsidised? Should companies pay more? Should there be private rent caps?  Why are people better off not working at all, or only working low hours to ensure they get benefits top ups?  How do you think people respond to this?     Do you realise that a number of companies are focussing on buying property? The banks, the supermarkets! Yet the government is squeezing individuals out of this equation. What do you think this will look like in the future? When foreign companies own the majority of UK property?
    • All depends on what you call reasonably priced!  Was it for Christmas Day?   Noticed that The Plough were advertising Christmas Lunches but did not see any prices listed.
    • A few weeks back, I booked an appointment by phone, not the app, which surely must be the same process as booking it at reception? Though it was for a longer appointment than usual, so maybe that was why?
