Hello

Just logged in to see a spate of posts about terrible crimes in ED! It makes me so mad that our only police station has closed down, and I'm wondering what the best course of action is to at least raise our concerns.

It's all very well saying 'no point..' but it's the same principle with voting: even if you think your vote doesn't count, nothing would ever be changed.

Any ideas? Write to Ms Harman? Southwark? A petition?

My advice would be to stop reading the forum or start taking it with a pinch of salt.

Crime reporting on the EDF tends to cluster, and has remained pretty high since about a year or two after inception.

Given the nature of many of them is things as dubious as "I saw some lads with scarves on" ...

ooh nice site

so in fact september pretty good in east dulwich

things have got worse year on year in my neck of the woods (S Camberwell), I can only imagine the rapture happened for most of September 2012

Although subward E01004049 is pretty fine, knowing the area well I reckon most of the crime wave of 8 crimes in the month consisted of taking a corner badly or driving on the wrong side of the road to avoid chicanes created by traffic calming measures.

Carry on as usual but more vigilant than usual. Don't walk around with anything obviously expensive (i phone) on display. If you see anyone that you're not comfortable with, cross the road. In other words, take all the precautions that you should be taking anyway, and carry on as usual.

There's no more crime in ED than there is anywhere else, it's just that we have a brilliant mechanism (the EDF) for reporting it. I don't mean any disrespect to anyone who has recently been a victim of crime; just saying that ED is no different from anywhere else.

I agree EP, but would also say that this forum is potentially, if not already, a valuable resource for assimilating information that could ultimately lead to prevention.

As a mugger, I find this forum very useful. It tells me where my fellow muggers have been working, and so I know that people will be on their toes in those areas, and avoid them for a while until people have relaxed back in to a more nonchalant, and thus vulnerable state.

Thanks EDF, keep up the good work.

I'll be watching...

    • If you care about the decline in the swift population please support the lovely Hannah Bourne-Taylor in her campaign to mandate 'swift bricks' in all new properties   From her website: What are swift bricks? Zero maintenance and sustainable, swift bricks are bricks that sit flush to the wall that provide a cavity nesting habitat for swifts and other cavity nesting birds. Surveys show species include House martins, starlings, House sparrows, nuthatch, blue tit, coal tit and wren. Why swift bricks are urgently and uniquely essential Without swift bricks there is no guaranteed nesting habitat for birds reliant on building cavities anywhere in the UK – and there never will be. We are inadvertently destroying their oldcavity nesting sites through renovation, demolition and insulation, while climate mitigation measures mean modern buildings will never provide natural homes for birds. https://hannahbournetaylor.com/ Don't be such a pompous bore. She is doing something to improve the world around us, what does it matter what social class she is from? The despicable Michael Gove offered support then did nothing. The current government, despite supposed concern for the environment, also failed to support the campaign. She took the trouble to write back to me when I asked a question. But carry on poking fun at honourable people while our surroundings decay.
