OK.

If being negative is asking perfectly valid questions (and yes, I've asked them time and time again because I've yet to get an answer!) then OK, I'm negative.

If a business advertises themself as something, then they should be able to back it up.

What exactly is the "sing alongers" "clique"?

If you are referring to the Singaround which I co-run, then far from being a clique, it's a community Singaround to which anybody is welcome to come, and it has been going from strength to strength. As well as lots of local people, we have singers coming from as far afield as West Sussex and Cambridge.

And listeners are very welcome too.

But I've got no idea what it has to do with The Patch.

Anyway, got to go now because I have a gig at The Old Nun's Head, so do feel free to discuss my "negativity" in my absence :)

Why not go and visit when they are up and running - then you'll be able to form a valid opinion on what they're doing (as opposed to relying on websites / twitter feeds / EDF etc). I'm sure that in the long time they have been trying to get this off the ground they have had to make some changes along the way.

That would also give you the opportunity to ask them some questions in person, and give them some feedback - I'm sure they would love to hear how they could improve things and encourage more people to go and eat.

I also think that its best they steer clear of this thread. Most of it isn't about The Patch anyway!

I really hope it is a success and wish them all the best.

Language please.......and who are you by the way?

Anyway, given this appears to be a discussion about something that hasn't happened yet, when the aliens arrive or make themselves known, what will it do to house prices in ED do you think?

Not had a chance yet MM. Sat after next hopefully give it a whirl. Popped head in before they opened for a nose but it was still under construction.

Hope they can make a go of it. The big shed out the back was getting cleared out. Can't fully remember what they were going to do with that space.

Did this happen?

I can't see anything about it any more on either their Facebook page or Twitter?

https://www.facebook.com/dulwichpatch

And if it did, who were the VIPs? Local VIPs (whoever they might be :) ) or nationally known VIPs??

ETA: Nothing at all now on their website, either, unless they've changed the website address?

http://www.patchindulwich.co.uk/

ETA: And sorry to those of you who say I am negative, but this is what is at the top of their Twitter page:

"Creating Dulwich/London's first 100% self-sustaining gastro-pub! Opening Very Soon!!!!"

How can they possibly be "100% self-sustaining"? Are they going to have fish ponds and pigs on the roof as well as the vertical vegetable growing apparatus? And a windfarm? Have I misunderstood the definition of "self-sustaining"?

ETA: I really am looking forward to eating my hat (I am preparing an edible hat as I type), especially as - as I previously fully admitted - I did not think The Patch would get this far, and I was wrong. So I will be only too happy to be proved wrong again.

It was listed in a Time Out article this morning, in an article about rejuvenating London's pubs (though The Ivy House was featured too, higher up) but I can't find the article on the TO website to post a link. But it mentions locally sourced food and a hydroponic growing system. Shame the website is down so they can't make the most of the publicity...

I'm guessing it was a 7+ % imported draught IPA, in which case that's not outrageous. These are genuinely premium beers (unlike, say, draught Peroni) for which you're bound to pay more - they're imported in small quantities and are much stronger than ordinary domestic beers.

Without pointing the finger at you specifically, I get exasperated by people who can't or won't see that there are genuinely 'better' or more interesting beers for which a premium is (justifiably) charged. No-one walks into a wine shop, for instance, and goes, "?15 for a bottle of wine?! I can get a bottle of wine in Tesco for ?3.99!"

And I'm aware that there are rip-off 'craft beers' that don't deliver - much as there are overpriced wines - but the principle stands.

On a different note, I only drink strong IPAs in halves - or even thirds. Otherwise I'd get really pissed really quickly...

    • beansprout, what other countries are you familiar with?
    • Counterpoint: there was zero misrepresentation of truth    never mind the bbc or the uk (for now)-  his own country and government impeached him for trying to overturn an election.  What happened was unforgivable. Trump adding a few “non violent”’ legally wise words absolves him of nothing  but back to bbc and uk.  They were correct and now we have Trump threatening to sue for a billion have English people lost all self-respect (that question was answers 9 years ago and is repeated almost daily)
    • Point is.. top two have quit.. BBC is now what? From being well respected world wide.. not only for news, programs, no idea about pod casts.. Only thing we as a country do well currently is broadcast remembrance service…. Lets face it.. only country that I know of who can release wrong people from jail.. one gave himself up if news is to believed and the other is where? Only country I know of who actually pay people to leave, flights etc and they are back in country .. all heard via Radio 4…
    • It doesn't matter what channel it was on, how pernicious the subject is and when it happened. Mis-representing the truth in broadcast is not only morally wrong, it's against the OFCOM code of ethics.  Everyone in the industry is trained in how not to do it, most are made to take the BBC's own 'Safeguarding the Trust' course, even if they aren't making BBC programmes.  There wasn't much fuss at the time, because no one knew about it.  "Unless you hate Britain, hate liberals, hate the BBC, want a divided country, support the most powerful person in the world despite his many failings". What the programme makers personally think or feel should never affect how they tell a story; to do so is deeply unprofessional and a sackable offence.  It's the job of the BBC and of all programming to inform viewers of the facts and let them make up their own minds. Even in campaigning documentaries.
