We do buy one get one free Pies every Monday!


We'd also like to welcome the Patch to the Patch. Looking forward to coming to say hi and eating with you.

We have a great network of pubs here, most of the bar managers know each other and are always about to lend a hand if you need anything or are caught short.

Hi


Great to have you in East Dulwich.. I am local myself (upland road)

I run a meat/fish business- buy fresh produce daily from Smithfield and Billingsgate

plus a few specialist farmers (fosse meadow farm for chicken etc)


I am sure you have your regular suppliers but I would be delighted to be given the

opportunity to supply you some produce.


Basically I would buy from market and mark up 20%. I would easily be more competitive than

other suppliers as my overheads or so small. I have very good reviews on the forum and understand food !


As I go to market daily I am very flexible and can take last minute orders etc. Iam exceptionally busy

over Christmas/new year but would be delighted to buy anything for you.

I often drink Guinness, but usually where there isn't a decent selection of draught ale, and I'd say probably yes.


ETA: Shouldn't this thread be in the restaurant/trade section?

The Mag (in its Magnolia incarnation) always felt a bit "cold" too.


Can't remember much about the Magdala apart from the yellow!


It's a pity if they haven't improved the vibe, after all the time it took to finally open The Patch.


Not been down there and don't intend to, even though it's one of my nearest pubs. I can't understand how it can be touted as a "community" pub with brunch at ?16, even if it comes with bread with flakes of gold on or whatever.


Very mixed messages have been given out, in my opinion. If you're going to run a gastro pub competing with the likes of Franklins and the Palmerston, then just say so from the outset. All the other stuff - vertical horticulture on the roof, schoolkids growing your veg etc - is all very laudable but somehow doesn't fit.


Not in my world view, anyway, which I fully admit may be bitter and twisted due to currently living on a pension in an increasingly affluent neighbourhood :))

I guess the big question RE The Patch is how many people are in there?


I can barely afford to go to the pub these days, but I accept that these places aren't really for the likes of me. If people are going in and paying the prices, then it's working.

I agree with you guys. And also, I miss being able to get a nice strong Kentish/Sussex real ale in any pubs around here. It all seems to be about fancy continental lagers these days or am I missing the point? Landlords/pub companies, stop trying to appease Clapham blow-ins and feed me my brown ale!

I'm going next week for a birthday meal and drinks, will report back, but hope it's nice!


I loved the original Mag, in it's pre-posh state. It was our closest pub when we first moved to the area and I spent many a happily drunken night there. The Magnolia was lacking atmosphere, I never quite worked out what was wrong with it, but it just don't seem to work. Too far away from the "main" bars/restaurants?

Really? I think you may be thinking of the nineties. Although Peroni on draught does seem de rigeur these days.

Lager sales plummeting, ale sales rocketing generally.


The Dog had Harvey's on tap over christmas. And is it me or has the service improved, admittedly from a very very very low starting point.

Louisa - below say 40s, you'll see far more brown beer drunk among posher types than you will among working class lads/ladies.


The revival of bitter and ale in pubs and me starting drinking them again - largely led by the gentrified pubs - has just reinforced how sh1te draught lagers are to me.

      It's surprising though that they (France in particular) don't seem to have been paying attention to this side of the Channel and seen how a right wing populist Gov has trashed the UK. That if you vote for 'simple solutions to complex problems' like what Brexit promised, you end up with simpletons in charge. Who then proceed to drive out what remains of any competence/experience to  create an, ecosystem of incompetency for no other reason than they 'believe', promoting the likes of Lee Anderson to party Chair and Truss and Sunak to PM. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?!..

      That is correct, the collection and delivery operations are separate - the delivery operations work from Delivery Office (DOs) - such as Peckham - whereas collection goes directly to Sorting Offices. What is true however is that there are more daily collections from Post Boxes associated with Main and sub Post Offices - so if you need something to go urgently using one of these will get your post to a sorting Office quicker. [A confusion can arise because the final sort of post into 'walks' is done at the DOs - but post collected from boxes does not go to DOs directly].
