macutd
does anybody know what permissions you need to setup a halfway house? There is one on the corner of Trossachs rd and Thorncombe rd and it seems very close to several schools for such a potentially problematic place to be. macutd
No. but if i did it wouldn't be in a quiet residential street with 3 schools within 100 yards! Pugwash
Halfway houses are also used for people who are waiting to be rehoused. My stepdaughter when she and her partner were expecting their first child, their private landlord gave them notice to quit their bedsit, so the local council put them up in a Halfway House until the baby was born when they got a one bedroomed council flat. giggirl
For heaven's sake. So we need halfway houses, but not on our own doorstep, right? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/38368-halfway-house/#findComment-695383 Share on other sites
BrandNewGuy
It's less than a stone's throw from our house. I have no problem with it being there. Next scare, please... Jeremy
They throw stones at your house? That's awful. I demand to know what is going to be done about this. Nicholas Spears
How do you know it's a halfway house, and what are they halfway between? What sort of residents does it have? I've always assumed halfway houses are for ex-prisoners on their way to full freedom. But I may be mistaken Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/38368-halfway-house/#findComment-695401 Share on other sites
Lowlander
They're really useful, I lived next door to one in Battersea on a nice street near a school, good neighbours and would accept any parcels/recorded mail for me when I was at work. If it's more than a few doors away then obviously they'd be no use to you. But then you'd probably not even notice it exists. KidKruger
macutd - let's hope you never need a halfway house, eh ?Although perhaps you could use it now for procuring drugs, guns and various contraband ? Slaves perhaps too ?There's always a flip-side. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/38368-halfway-house/#findComment-695407 Share on other sites

grabot
It's become a little odd, this forum. A person makes a comment about something happening in the area, then a cohort of people who have left the area, and now profess varying degrees of dislike for East Dulwich, jump on the post and mock and pillory the poster. The mockery comes across as a little creepy, obsessive and stalker-ish. I will state that I am ambivalent about the original post though... LondonMix
Half-way houses I thought housed people who were insitionalised (uaually prison) and is a reintroduction into everyday life, correct? The way some people are describing it, it sounds more like a hostel. Do they serve emergency housing needs as well? For example, in answer to your earlier response to my comment. I wonder what the following regular expression yields on this thread?^I.*! KidKruger
for me it yields:10 PRINT "*yawn*"20 GOTO 10I think that will make it through the interpreter. to terminate.
