Hi again

If you read my other Goodrich thread, you'll know that I've failed to secure a place on the Goodrich school tour BEFORE the deadline for applications - not my cleverest moment, as it's pretty much the only school we have a hope of getting in to...

So I'd love to hear from current Goodrich parents, and any other local parents for that matter, about how the school is currently.

I remember reading a while back about some kind of a hoo-haa (sp?)about head teachers and PTAs, but I think the current head is new since then. My impression is that there's been a number of changes of head teacher in a relatively short time, which is why I'm keen to hear the latest feedback, rather than searching back through past years of discussion about the school.

Thanks in advance if you can spare two mins to tell me what you think is great, and not so great, about the school right now. Feel free to PM if you prefer..

There's only been one change of head in the 3ish years that we've been associated with the school (we started in the nursery). I have two kids there, in years 1 and 2, both very happy and keen to get to school in the mornings. Great teachers, motivated management team, happy kids, and a very community feel. No complaints :)
Friends of Goodrich (fog)has a Facebook page I think that gives a lovely view of the school. I did some voluntary work there and I was so impressed by the teachers. They have masses of space there and the kids seem lovely. On the show round they say how well the school is doing under the new Head and that children of all abilities do well there.

Try ringing the school to see if you can have a look around some other time.

I have two girls there and they, and I, love it. There were some problems between the governing body and the previous Head, but they are very much in the past. Academically the school is on the up and up; recent results were great. The current head is also very keen on art and has brought in a specialist art teacher who's got the children doing some amazing stuff.

On the negative side the music provision and communication around it isn't great at the moment. There are free instrumental lessons in KS2 and paid for individual lessons in woodwind and strings across the school but they are not well advertised; but I understand that the head has music in his sights for improvement.

    • Police are responsible for speed cameras, often these only go up after a serious incident or two. If speeding was decriminalised and went to local authorities to enforce then our roads would be safer as there would be far less speeding.   https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/enforcement-20mph-zones-local-roads
    • Never understood why there are not more speed cameras on Lordship Lane and the surrounding area - not sure what happened here exactly, but given the damage to the front of the vehicle as a result of the impact of the traffic light, it seems very unlikely that this person was driving slowly.
    • I am always really surprised by the glowing reviews of Franklins. Not sure whether it was once very good, and so it is just somewhere that is now remembered as that and thought of fondly by those who have known it since its opening all those years ago? As someone who has lived in the area for a few years now, and having tried it a few times (mostly as a result of the positive reviews), I have always been pretty disappointed. The food has always been average for the price point, and last time we visited we waited about 40 minutes to place an order. Hopefully whoever buys it can make improvements - it would be great to have a reliable pub on the lane that serves good food (similar to the Kerfield or Camberwell Arms, etc.)!
    • I will buy you a frothy coffee from anywhere you like on Lordship Lane if that happens. Most of these costs never get recovered from the drivers that caused them. The photo shows a car that's been left on the zigzags protecting the crossing. Pedestrians crossing East to West and drivers heading South won't see each other until the pedestrians are in the road. That is a dangerous position to leave a car in. (I don't know if it's stil there, obviously).
