I am looking to buy nice 50 roses ,but don't want to spent fortune,as if it's from a regular shop that would be over ?100.Where can I buy from wholesale and is 50 considered,I assume not every florist buys big amount as flowers are perishable. Also if you suggest a place-do you know what time I need to be there and what would be the prices in comparison to the normal shops. Many thanks

[www.newcoventgardenmarket.com] seconded. They have no prices on display so you'll need to negotiate to get the best deals, suggest taking a whizz around the stalls at NCG FM, selecting the whole saller you want to deal with and don't be afraid to negotiate hard.

I really like the florist on L Lane up by Barcelona Tapas, at Dulwich Common. It always strikes me as a really good local business to support and the plants I buy there, while not the cheapest, tend to be really good quality (and the guy there is really nice & helpful) Who knows, they might be happy to do a deal. 02086933332.

:)

New covent Garden for sure. Worth getting up early for (go before 7am, the earlier the better). Maybe do couple of research trips to local florists to find out what varieties you'd like as just asking for 'pink' or 'white' will make you look like you dont know what you're doing. Ask around and don't forget to add the VAT!

I don't rate columbia road. Old tatty flowers at bad prices, but yes, cheaper than a florist although I've never met a proper florist who would buy from there. One for the hipsters only. Great for plants though.

I am a florist, by the way.

    • Malumbu, that's great that you are so helpful and honest, but sadly not everybody around is. And some of us are crap at DIY and would be better off not attempting most of it.  I can wire a plug, unblock a u-bend and paint a wall,  but that's about it. Mind you some of the people I have paid didn't seem to be much better, unfortunately. Can you say more about the LETS scheme? Who regulates it, and how?
    • You are not the only one. I visited GM's Hair Salon last Sunday and had possibly the worst haircut of my life. It began badly when the stylist didn't mix the dye correctly so it wasn't colouring my hair uniformly. Instead of stopping to fix this she went straight into the cutting. I was very clear in telling her that I didn't want my hair cut too short but she ignored this instruction, attacking my hair with the clippers without once stopping to check if I was happy. She had a particular problem getting the sides of equal length but she just kept on cutting making both sides far too short. I asked her to comb my hair backwards but she combed it forward. I asked her to cut my hair at the back in a point but she ignored me again and did the opposite. The fringe at the front wasn't straight either. As if all this wasn't bad enough she didn't use a cutting collar so I got hairs all down my back and she cut my right ear (twice) and I left the salon wearing a bandage. The salon didn't seem too busy when I visited – staff outnumbered clients – so I don't understand why an employee with no idea how to cut short hair, inexperience with clippers and unable to follow instructions was allowed to work on me. An apology or a refund for a visibly atrocious haircut would have been welcome but neither was forthcoming. I will never set foot in GM's Hair Salon again.
    • If it’s not their responsibility then it’s not their responsibility. If it’s that of one of the properties on that parade, that property own must take action.
