WOW ! First time today we have been able to try the Patch ( the old Mag - - no comparison!) and what a lunchtime treat! Just a fabulous menu and the food was exquisite - well done you lot especially the very talented Masterchef Champ Keri Moss and her chefs! Couldn't fault anything! (Hake and the Duck were the two chosen dishes with a side of seasonal veg! Will be back ASAP!!

Afraid we didn't rate it when we went :-( it's the age old issue of whether kids are welcome and in Dulwich it's a bit dangerous not to cater for them when the midday rush is usually only families with rugrats. We went at midday a few weeks ago and every table was filled with families yet there was nothing on the menu that remotely suited a toddler, she ended up picking at al dente vegetables and a very rich gravy which was to our taste but not good for her. Don't expect places to have kids menus or to openly embrace them with stickers and colouring in (I always take lots of entertainment for my kids when I eat out) but it was a bit off putting having nothing for her to eat...red cabbage and hard sprouts aren't really the types of veg she would eat. The staff were pretty brusque and when I asked about hiring the room upstairs they dismissed me saying it wasn't the right time to ask. I found it all a bit uncomfortable to be honest. The food was nice enough and may give it one more shot but will def be leaving the kids at home!

ToastED sets itself up as a destination restaurant with exciting food and they have children's food at lunchtime, a colouring table to help distract them, and are very welcoming. Franklins are very sweet with babies and small children at lunch time. It can be done.

    • There’s a line of stationary buses with hazards on ,from East Dulwich Grove to  Goose Green roundabout blocking traffic so it has to use the wrong lane at the zebra to cross the roundabout. No idea why.

    • Reviving this to say that Palais is now up and running.  We went to a night there yesterday.  It is a first floor bar with cocktails and space for a DJ.  That I think is intended to be a quieter space for an older/more chilled crowd.  There is also a basement club space that can hold 500, it has an amazing sound system. The communal areas are still a bit rough and ready, they still need to do some replastering and painting on the stairways and there is currently no functioning lift.   But generally it was well run and thoughtfully restored. It was good to see the space back in use and it feels like a good addition  to that end of Peckham. Interestingly, showing a shift in night time cultures, there were signs about not using mobile phones and everyone had to get a blocking  sticker put on their phone camera lens before they were allowed in.
    • Great shout. They do need the extra fat when it’s winter, but don’t use fat balls from April as they are dangerous for nestlings as the babies can choke on lumps of the fat. When it gets milder switch to suet pellets as they are harder and don’t melt (the grease is bad for feathers.
