????
I think he would have been baffled by his own sainthood to be honest Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39565-john-peel-stage/page/2/#findComment-705484 Share on other sites

grabot
Yes, I remember listening to his show on one occasion. He was plugging a number of "One Man Bands". The music had to be some of the worst music I had ever heard and my tastes are pretty diverse. It went from being mildly amusing to distinctly frustrating. Dunno, probably should have listened to some more shows, but I was left feeling that he randomly fired out unknown music in the hope of being credited for discovering "the next big thing". red devil
I don't think JP was that calculating and cynical grabot... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39565-john-peel-stage/page/2/#findComment-705493 Share on other sites
steveo
When I ran a band, he phoned me one day to book them in for a session. I was convinced it was one of my mates buggering around Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39565-john-peel-stage/page/2/#findComment-705496 Share on other sites
KidKruger
When he DJ'd at Ryde Pavilion he told me to fuck off when I asked if he had any decent records. I was well chuffed at being bollocked by John Peel. Jah Lush
I met him once at the backstage bar at the Pheonix Festival in '94. An absolutely lovely unassuming bloke. El Pibe
I saw an interview with the girl, now in her 50s, who basically said she was very precocious, going to festivals and gigs, she adored JP and completely seduced him and he had absolutely no idea about her age.She herself said there should be no witch hunt on her account. Ontherun
He championed one of my fave Indie bands - Mighty Mighty - in the 80s (ok, I admit I was going out with the bass player at the time) but dropped them like hot cakes when he decided their new release 'Built like a car' was disrespectful to women.
