holloway
i know i left it a bit late to buy a turkey but went to sainsbury' s yesterday and was staggered to find the ones on offer were priced at, wait for it, ?70 upwards. not organic or pre-stuffed even. turkeys are hardly prime birds like pheasants or partridges. why so expensive?your thoughts please and merry christmas to you all. NicoleChampion
Chicken is tastier anyway ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39654-turkeys/#findComment-706219 Share on other sites
Louisa
I too was horrified by the price of turkeys this season. I think maybe the flooding of Norfolk has killed off most of them and left us with a shortage. Horrible tasteless bird in my opinion anyway, much rather have a nice chicken or goose. Louisa. Alan Medic
On the subject and given I'm a veggie, how do I cook a turkey thigh? It's already seasoned according to the packaging. Tried the web but everything seemed complicated. Anyone got a simple way of doing it? intexasatthe moment
I would really recommend brining the turkey - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1340898/Heston-Blumenthals-Christmas-recipes-From-turkey-crisp-potatoes.htmlSince I discovered brining I can cook pork chops - it makes for moist and tender meat . JohnL
The 70 quid one were the sainsbury best ones (black norfolk something or other) - maybe the standard ones had all gone.I got a standard medium size one for ?21 (labelled 8-10 people) - most larger ones were around ?30 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/39654-turkeys/#findComment-706457 Share on other sites
