I reckon if Youngs took the site on and had the team behind Dulwich Wood House going in to sort it out as some sort of 'sister' pub/dining experience, they could promote walks through the woods connecting the two establishments I can't think of anything better than a nice summers day walk between the two places for a beer or even in winter a nice open log fire in both. Foresight is needed with this one. Come on Dulwich Estate put those thinking caps on please.

I actually emailed Youngs a year ago after being so impressed by a stay in one of their hotels in Claygate.

I suggested the Harverster as a location, but didn't hear anything back from them.

I think a hotel in the area would be great. There are so many wedding venues around here that it would make sense to have somewhere nearby for guests to stay.

Spot on. What were once two great pubs have been completely ruined so much so they no longer resemble pubs. The Clock House has had the most horrific makeover that makes it look like some awful ersatz pizza chain restaurant whilst The Dulwich Woodhouse resembles a Berni Inn from the 70s.

As someone who owns a property on Dulwich Estate land, which means having to deal with them on a fairly regular basis, all i can say is that this: "Foresight is needed with this one. Come on Dulwich Estate put those thinking caps on please" is a wildly optimistic request.

Glacial is the word i would use with regard to the pace at which things happen with them.

Last time I went to the Wood House I nearly lost the will to live. Shame, given it's so near the woods and would be a nice place to go after a walk.


Quite like the new Clock House decor, and it seems to me a vast improvement on how it was before, especially at the back, but I would not eat there again unless I was desperate.


And I don't think I could ever be that desperate .....

I presume it has listed status?

Am I right in thinking that Robert Browning went to school here? obviously not when it was a pub!

Would love to see it come back to life as a pub/ restaurant again. Have many happy memories of it as the Grove.

Then it got ruined, much as the Woodhouse did.

      @first mate  just Google the Green's policies and AI should summarise.  For sustainable transport this includes more initiatives to get people out of their cars as you would expect.  I've always been broadly in favour of their environmental policies, although feel they should go further on culture change. Some of their national policies are bonkers and/or unrealistic - as are most of Reform's.  Historically fringe parties could come up with nonsense, as they will never govern.  Of course whilst I don't expect that Polanski will ever be PM that other bloke could be.  Worrying times, particularly if the Greens split the centre/left vote.  It would be better if One Nation Tories could split the centre vote (and drag some of those on the right), but they don;t have a lot of influence in the current party.       I've planted a meadow out front, it needs a lot of work.  It's lovely until August and then grotty until the next spring as once the flowers have died back it doesn't have a lot going for it.  Clover is the last one to flower.  It will get admiring looks when in bloom. I laugh quite loud when I pass one neighbour with plastic grass, not only is it dead to nature it is not even laid well,   I should be crying.
