I reckon if Youngs took the site on and had the team behind Dulwich Wood House going in to sort it out as some sort of 'sister' pub/dining experience, they could promote walks through the woods connecting the two establishments I can't think of anything better than a nice summers day walk between the two places for a beer or even in winter a nice open log fire in both. Foresight is needed with this one. Come on Dulwich Estate put those thinking caps on please.

I actually emailed Youngs a year ago after being so impressed by a stay in one of their hotels in Claygate.

I suggested the Harverster as a location, but didn't hear anything back from them.

I think a hotel in the area would be great. There are so many wedding venues around here that it would make sense to have somewhere nearby for guests to stay.

Spot on. What were once two great pubs have been completely ruined so much so they no longer resemble pubs. The Clock House has had the most horrific makeover that makes it look like some awful ersatz pizza chain restaurant whilst The Dulwich Woodhouse resembles a Berni Inn from the 70s.

As someone who owns a property on Dulwich Estate land, which means having to deal with them on a fairly regular basis, all i can say is that this: "Foresight is needed with this one. Come on Dulwich Estate put those thinking caps on please" is a wildly optimistic request.

Glacial is the word i would use with regard to the pace at which things happen with them.

Glacial.

Last time I went to the Wood House I nearly lost the will to live. Shame, given it's so near the woods and would be a nice place to go after a walk.


Quite like the new Clock House decor, and it seems to me a vast improvement on how it was before, especially at the back, but I would not eat there again unless I was desperate.


And I don't think I could ever be that desperate .....

I presume it has listed status?

Am I right in thinking that Robert Browning went to school here? obviously not when it was a pub!

Would love to see it come back to life as a pub/ restaurant again. Have many happy memories of it as the Grove.

Then it got ruined, much as the Woodhouse did.

      I went online and, after crawling through lots of options, finally got to a page that allowed me to make a complaint that wasn’t to do with a generic problem. I explained that lots of people in and around SE22 are having irregular deliveries.

      That is the similar issue with Peckham Rye - the council have prioritised commercial interests over the community (residents and environment), and utterly shameless in doing so. For a council to be wilfully cirumventing legal ruling, is more than alarming. Their actions should always be transparent and beyond reproach, not shady and biased for particular commercial interest. It raises the question of where else they manipulate commercial interests and generally look to break rules.

      I can't see it will ever be finally resolved, unfortunately. Although the local problems were made much worse due to the move of the Sylvester Road  delivery office to Peckham, Royal Mail has had issues ever since it was privatised. Whenever the local MP gets involved, things get a bit better temporarily, then they just deteriorate again. I hope I'm wrong, but there are similar postal delivery issues all over the country. I think there are currently discussions ongoing to change the delivery requirements which Royal Mail is supposed to adhere to for first and second class post. Silly question, but are you actually expecting letters? I haven't had any post for ages either, but I'm not expecting any! Much stuff these days is done by email or on apps. The East Dulwich delivery office is in Peckham, not West Dulwich?
