So do I , ten minutes of it in a cafe is enough for me .

That's the point SJ I've never had to get on a bus I'd rather walk or if it's long distance drive! I think without buses London would be easier to get around for everyone- I mean even without a car you could cycle or walk into central london in around 45minutes or less. Just my personal opinion.

Louisa.

I hear people talking about 'apps' all the time and how they can become addictive? Are they like games or something? Or more general purpose? I can totally appreciate how these things would be great to keep kids amused. I just personally think for an adult, you may as well have a laptop- I'm guessing a tablet is more of a fun thing than something to write emails with? Am I wrong?

an app is literally just an app(lication) like any software you can get for a computer. It's just on ipads (and to a lesser extent on android devices) the market is tightly controlled, so you have to buy them online from Apple's appstore and install them from the ether.

Tablet's do have limitations compared to a laptop, but they have strengths too. There's no tedious booting up, they're very light and use much less power. For browsing your usual sites it's actually much less hassle to use one.

Some apps are useful. Addictive? I dunno, there was talk about candy crush and that game the developer withdrew, but I don't think that's an aspect of apps per se, more that people always have their phone with them and can become obssessive about stuff, whether social media or these games that reward regular visits, and try to encourage micro-purchases.

"I think without buses London would be easier to get around for everyone"

How does someone even think this without getting sucked into some kind of stupidity/implausibility vortex and then exploding into a million pieces?

There are over 2 BILLION bus journeys in London every year. 2 BILLION! A BILLION, X 2. 2 000 000 000.

But hey, I'm sure all of those journeys could be done more easily by people walking, cycling and driving. NOT.

They're slow, they clog up already busy roads and are deeply annoying to be stuck behind! From a totally non-biased point of view, I think abandoning buses and taking to walking short distances and using bicycles for journeys into and out of the centre, we would have a much easier time of things on London's roads. Buses are great for a view from the top deck but remain incredibly overcrowded even outside of peak times. I'm not saying do away with buses- I'm saying cut down on their use .

The 'app' sounds different- thanks for the explanation El Pibe, I don't think I will rush out to buy a tablet just yet but at least I now understand what it's meant for to an extent. I've never actually held one, I may pop to Curry's and have a fondle at the weekend.

    • I have had multiple jobs completed at my home by T.D. PLUMBFIX SOLUTIONS LTD, and I wouldn't go to anyone else now. They always come at the agreed day/time, I have never been asked to rearrange. The jobs have always been completed to extremely high standards, and as a perfectionist myself, I appreciate this level of care and detail. I'm grateful of the clear up afterward too, leaving me very little to do after the job is done. I am always blown away by the speed and efficiency  - no waffle, no flannel, just sheer hard work from start to finish. In summary - a highly professional first class service. Don't hesitate to call T.D. PLUMBFIX SOLUTIONS LTD, if you like excellence and trade people that will respect your home.
    • Or increase tax.  The freezing of personal allowances is one way, not what I would choose.  On principle I don't care if the rich immigrate.  The main parties could have been more honest before the election.  Reform is deluded.
    • I edited my post because I couldn't be sure we were talking about politicians and I couldn't be bothered to read it all back. But it was off the back of a thread discussing labour councillors, so it went without saying really and I should have left it.  What I said was 'There's something very aggressive about language like that - it's not big and it's not clever. Some of the angry energy that comes from the far left is pretty self-defeating.' (In relation to a labour councillor rather immaturely, in my view, wearing a jumper that read 'fuck the Tories').  But I don't recall saying that "violent rhetoric" is exclusively the domain of the left wing. So I do think you're taking a bit of a bit of leap here.
    • You literally just edited your earlier reply to remove the point you made about it being “politicians”.  Then you call me pathetic.    I’m  not trying to say you approve any of the ugly right wing nonsense.  But I AM Saying your earlier post suggesting  violent rhetoric being “left wing” was one-sided and incorrect
