Irish Shop to close

Please no more on the "insensitive" ongoing class war red herrings that appear to be taking over the ED forum topics as of late, whats the alternative should we nationalize all failing shops ???? A shop either works or or doesn't.

A local business obviously has to have kerb appeal to draw you in and make you want to purchase something or buy into the theme/personal service.

If it doesn't or it looks as though the owners can't be bothered anymore then it will fall by the way and another place will pop up in its place. It's our right as the hard working consumer to spend our money on where and wherever we please. So I stand by my initial observation of the Irish shop.

Have to agree with 85volga. Not to be too uncharitable, but they really went to a special effort to make their shop front as uninviting as humanly possible. These days that kind of shop needs to be in an area with higher footfall anyway.

I did. Once. Tapas do Brasil. There was nothing wrong with it, apart from a near total lack of customers. And I miss the Irish shop. I even liked the front window. But once the church closed down the hall next door there were suddenly no Irish events (music, dance, sport, language, wedding parties, etc) to provide a stream of customers getting their fix of red lemonade, Taytoes crisps, Barry's tea, Kimberley biscuits and the world famous* Clonakilty black pudding.

(* not really)

    • Sadly this means for those of us who live within this ward the brilliant Helen Hayes will no longer represent us (that is if she's standing again). The Labour candidate for Lewisham West and East Dulwich is Ellie Reeves who has been MP for West Lewisham and Penge before the redrawing of boundaries.  She is sister to Rachel Reeves.
    • Highly recommend Kam Thompson (of Bascoe & Reid) for all your painting and decorating needs.  We've had him back many times and he has now painted our whole house to a fantastic standard. He is also great to have around. His number is 07949507412
    • The SEN teacher who was there at the start was superb, unfortunately she went on maternity leave and most of the good work she did was unravelled by the current headteacher.
