There certainly used to be one held weekly in Kingswood House... But perhaps some of the pubs and coffee bars could be persauased to supply outdoor tables during the summer. It is so civilied and continental (in a good way) to contemplate the Sicilian whilst sipping espresso and observing the passing humanity no?

I used to be quite good at chess til I was about 18 (****). Then people said you are a mathematician so you must be good at chess. This raised the goalposts to the point where I decided not to risk being only mediocre at chess. So I stopped playing.

**** clearly any evidence as to whether I was good at chess at 17 has been lost in the mists of time so I can make this statement without feer of repraisal.

I'm a real chess lover (although not a great player) and recently found out that there is a Dulwich Chess Club. It meets every Monday from 8pm upstairs at the Crown and Greyhound in the Village. Here's the website;

See you there!

Perhaps various EDF related events should take place on different cycles of 8 days so that

- no one is excluded from other events

- people who have regular commitments elswhere (eg I have choir on most thurs) can come at least some of the time

The astute reader will note my degree subject from a previous similar posting :-)

That sounds like a good plan. How about starting the Chess this coming Tuesday, then the following Weds etc etc? Should the venue be a bar?

Andrew where is your choir and are they professionals? My partner is looking for a choir to join but for fun and to learn rather than one that is already outstanding.

Jamie, there's an a cappella group that I think rehearses at Horniman's each week. They do a mixture of musical styles, and it's all quite casual from what I'm told. You could google it, or I can find out more details if you like... I was told about it by someone, but never got round to looking in to it.

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!
    • Hi  I really thought I'd seen a more recent post on the forum about home education meet ups. I can't find it though. Hope some of these might provide leads. https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/137603-home-schooling-advice-anyone-wants-to-do-it-together/#comment-1092093 Very old post but group seems still to exist: https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/92044-home-education-local-group/#comment-954837 You could try contacting this forum member: https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/325368-classroom-support-for-home-education-community/#comment-1621064 Two of these left for right now: https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/events/event/1025-🌟-teens-11-try-painting-sculpture-street-art-at-holiday-workshops/
    • Thanks for your reply. I’ve subscribed to Ancestry a few times in the past but felt I wasn’t using it enough to warrant keeping up the subscription.
    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
