I've been guilty of trying to eat a hot chinese meal on more than one occasion, whilst driving

Wrong I know, but with a bit of practice it's doable. However, i'd never do this on the train/tube/bus, I prefer the privacy of my van

My suggestion for transport diners is to go solo, think of your car or van as a private dining room. And it's positively encouraged, just look at how many drive thru's there are. All I need now is a 12 volt micro wave, so I could ping a ready meal off, as I bowl don the Old Kent road

Anyone care to join me ?

We might not have a choice

You might want to rethink that policy Seabag - whilst not illegal, the police can deem you not to be in proper control of your vehicle and fine you for careless driving accordingly. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/9197930/Eating-while-driving-more-dangerous-than-using-phone.html

In an ideal world no one would need to eat on the tube, but if I'm in a rush, and I'm really hungry, I'll do it, because when my sugar levels drop I start to shake and sweat, and frankly I'd rather people I'll never see again find me digusting than to actually feel disgusting.

Having said that, there is eating and there is eating. Fried chicken, much as I love it, smells pretty strong, and leaves waste other than packaging (bones). The smell of fish makes me feel ill, no one wants to see someone trying to eat a doner, let alone smell it.

But cold foods, sandwich, bag of crisps, chocolate bar... does that really bother people?

Kids leaving chicken boxes/bones on the bus is a separate issue, and yes it's minging.

Hell no.

But occasionally I do have to work late, and at other times I might have stuff I need to do immediately after work (i.e. not the pub). It's rare, but every now and then I have to grab something on the way home. Of course I could eat, then catch a later train. But I don't consider a cheese toastie to be sufficiently obtrusive to justify getting home 15 mins later. Especially at night when the trains are quite empty and people can sit wherever they like.

There are obviously scales of smelliness when it comes to convenience food. Ranging from sandwich through to zinger tower burger. I'd put a cheese toastie somewhere in the middle... but honestly, I think anyone who's seriously offended by that - on a 9 min journey - when they could have the choice of almost any other seat on the train - is being particularly awkward.

Maybe I will compromise and agree to not eat hot food during peak hours...

I think all eating and drinking ought to be banned on metropolitan public transport. I know it sounds draconian and broadbrush but you can't have a law saying "no chips, but crisps are ok; only sandwiches that don't contain fish; no burgers but wraps are fine". Noone *needs* to eat and slurp on a Tube train unless they are feeling hypoglycaemic, in which case they're likely well-equipped with sucrose tablets and/or medication.
Whenever I have been on an extended shopping trip to the West End, I always get a prawn sandwich and a drink and get on the top deck of the 176- bliss. I absolutely object to paying through the nose and waste time sitting down for food and drink in a coffee shop or whatever- and you would be lucky to get a seat anyway.
To link back to the OP, if you were eating your prawn sandwich, Krispy Kreme doughnut (plain or custard? It may make a difference) or fried chicken on the train after a very long day, and you looked up to see a stranger photographing you mid-mouthful, and when you got home a friend texted you to say they'd seen it online, how would you feel?

Eating should be done considerately, photos of unwitting eaters shouldn't be taken.... Let actual common sense prevail.... Oh, and then humans get involved. Muppets! I'm female, very occasionally will eat a bought sandwich on public transport.... Berate me now and forever ( oh, and every man that isn't mentioned)

The very real issue here, ignoring the very occasional but unlikely harm/offence caused on here is significantly more serious....

Women focused derision in a world where children come across porn at an early age and in particuar think girls/women should act like they see on websites. More relevantly revenge websites for exes/current girlfriends showing misguided girls during sexual acts who have their lives destroyed. This is the thin end of the wedge.... We should all be very wary

    • Thank you! She is both spayed and microchipped, and reported missing on Petlog and with the vets.   She normally never goes out the front, certainly for never more than 10-15 minutes, so this is definitely new territory for her. There is lots of dense foliage across the road so there are plenty of places she could be hiding if she is spooked, so we are hoping she will come back when she is calm. The weather isn't helping, she never goes out in the rain. Thank you again!
    • Hi, Have you been letting her out the front door onto the street or would this be a first & therefore unfamiliar with the area? Does she respond to a name & is she spayed & microchipped? Our team carry scanners on our daily routes & will of course be looking our for her. I hope you are reunited with her soon. If not already, notify your street & surrounding streets (find out if they have Whatsapp groups) Dox will print & deliver free missing posters https://www.doxdirect.com/help/free-missing-pet-posters/ Call her at dusk & dawn when street & foot traffic is at its lowest. • A slightly delayed review but another one to echo Niko's praises. I had an issue with a cistern that needed replacing and Niko was attentive and did a great job. He was very diligent, explained what he was doing and fixed issues from a previous plumber's work. I will definitely ask for his help again if I have any issues in the future.
    • In good condition.  The seal should be intact.  Thanks
