StraferJack
what we had back then was TIME to play and invest in all these thingsHonestly, gaming is much better these days. I sometimes pick up speedball 2, or kick off or any number of old games and the proustian rush is immense. But play them for any amount of time? NahMy favourite arcade games from back in the day: Missile Command, Bombjack, Ghost n GoblinsSpeccy/Amstrad: all of the ultimate games, rtypeAmiga: too many to mention. Playing proper 3d games for first time felt cool tho Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/44805-computer-game-from-the-late-80s-help/page/4/#findComment-751203 Share on other sites

But play them for any amount of time?> NahAll in all you're probably right, but when I was playing loads of old console games on my phone a while back there were some games that did make me think nothing feels this exciting anymore. Early Zelda games, Mario 2 & 3, Super Metroid (you can tell I was a Nintendo kid), and no fighting game will ever beat Street Fighter 2!Yes Mario 64 was a HUGE step forward, and WOW!!!, But something about those 8 / 16bit games was just great, because they couldn't rely on pretty graphics and sound to make you feel like you were there. grabot
I agree entirely with StraferJack. We are quite lucky in that respect. As we get older, at least when it comes to gaming, things gets better. It can take time for things to improve though, I am finding the line-up for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One pretty insipid at the moment, but I'm sure it will improve... Pickle
Ha, I knew there were a group of you who would enjoy this thread! Good trip down memory lane, I remember so many of the games you talk about. Time was key, I would still enjoy sitting down and playing games, but life just doesn't allow it these days. Will we be a new generation of retirees 20/30-odd years from now? My 70 year old father in law sits all day reading his beloved Scotsman newspaper from cover to cover, I don't see myself doing that, but reliving teenage gaming is on my list! MrBen
arf. Not what I meant tho. That said, I'm in admiration of any fathers out there who can juggle work, kids and wider family and still manage long 3 hour sessions of Minecraft or whatever...how do they do it? El Pibe
kids, wife and 3 hour gaming sessions? not possible without thatcher like requirements for sleep.hence why most of my gaming is quick fix, touch screen based these days.Still manage the odd bit here and there and it gets easier the less your kids need you. Soon they'll be locking themselves in their room for days on end and i'll be free, free to do what i want, then I'm gonna get [chuckie egg] loaded [up], i'm gonna have a good time!!!Yes, I own slippers.Still, there's a beer fridge in teh entertainment room, though I may skip on the pills and trips these days.
