see also beeb impartiality, by failing to please all people you will inevitably annoy lots of people.

headliner == established so already annoyed youth (unless ironic appreciation of ancient stalwart)

music taste != myMusicTaste == piss of everybody else.

the answer is obviously to just bloody well go to the conert of the band you like or a festival that caters for your taste.

Green Man has an excellent line-up this year and hammerfest a terrible one...seewadidithere?

Aw that's a shame, I wanted to believe she'd been genuine.

That and now Rolf. Bad day for legends.

RE The Pixies, it's a similar story as the Springsteen one for me. Saw them a while back having never been a huge fan, and loved the gig. On the strength of that I downloaded a load of their stuff and really listened for a while. But with the exception of a few songs it just didn't grab me.

Hadn't realised Kim Deal had left, she was the best thing about them.

Think they could easily headline though.

I really enjoyed this years coverage and had a great weekend with home cooking, beers, world cup and Glastonbury.

I also swore others were lip syncing but my mates there texted back saying it was the time delay....so glad it wasnt just me. Look at all girl rockers Haim - they sounded way too polished to be live - perhaps guitar parts but singing was def not live?

There's are sync issues with digital broadcast (time slip, forward and backward) - and of course more so with online and iplayer. Haim looked like this - loads of timeslip on that transmission - but sounded totally live to me. Wouldn't say they sounded, er, 'too polished'.

Dolly's in the novelty slot, aged 162 with a Bo Selecta face, comedy breasts and the bum of a 12 year-old boy, so I think - all things considered - they thought 'what the hell' and let her do what she wanted, but if they started letting acts like Haim mime it'd all be over.

I find it really irritating, having to constantly discuss whether they 'are' or 'not' - whenever anyone is on anything these days. It really spoils things.

    • I hope it's ok to use this thread to ask for advice on a separate issue in relation to TJ Medical Practice. A friend of mine who is registered there has recently been diagnosed with a serious long-term condition. He has been struggling to find a good GP at the practice since the departure of Dr Love and I said I would try to find out which of the remaining GPs other patients have found most capable and sympathetic - particularly for the scenario of overseeing ongoing care for a long-term progressive illness. Is there any particular GP that people would recommend?  Very many thanks.
    • I,m not a fan of Gales; but a lot of food serving premises open on Xmas day , so not unusual, worked in catering for nearly 40 years and staff usually get extra pay… My niece who is in her last year of college & wants to go travelling next summer, is waitressing in a restaurant near where she lives on Xmas day & Boxing Day for £20 per hour to boost her travelling fund. Back in the day I worked New Year’s Day 2000, & had my pay bumped to £50 per hour, happy days (wasn’t forced I volunteered)
    • Hardly strange; arcane perhaps. It used to be a common practice in many towns for the swings, roundabouts etc in parks to be chained up by the council on Sundays, so that they didn’t provide a source of reckless pleasure on the sabbath. The outrage that a cake shop should open on Christmas Day reminded me of this. The policy had pretty much died out in England and Wales by the 70’s but is still in force in parts of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
    • I would be interested to learn if Gail's hike their prices on Christmas day. I don't go to Gail's (as I prefer Christophers on HM Lane) but if anyone does go and detects a bit of price gouging, please let us all know.
