Fish & chips in ED?

We have an overseas guest who want some proper British fish and chips for dinner. Can anyone recommend somewhere in ED that got good fish and chips take away or eat in, pub or fish bar that's kid friendly.

I'm not a fan of the sea cow .....

Theres a place in goose green, name has slipped my mind now, its near pappa johns pizza shop. Fish there is lovely and can sit in or take away. X

Emily's fish shop on north cross road is our favourite. We have moved away and still drive there to pick it up and bring them home. Delicious.

If your guest wants true authenticity then fish and chips really needs to be eaten by the seaside. Take-away only - none of this fancy eating-in palava. Fish and chips tastes better on your feet with your fingers.

Maybe head to Whitstable or similar for a day out?

Otherwise most of the places recommended here are pretty good and pretty similar in standard. Best in London is in Clerkenwell - place called Fish Central. I'm salivating now so might have to get my dinner there tonight!

Maddy's fish bar on New Cross road has had some really good reviews....don't know if it's what you're looking for though.

Maddy's is indeed great. The chips in particular are fantastic! Also brockley's rock on brockley road is good.

Seamaster - yum! Added bonus of lovely staff and the BEST milkshakes ever - according to my kids.
