The place was a dry cleaners previously and the same family ran it - so the shop has probably been run by the same family for two generations, albeit in various incarnations.

For what its worth I concur with Curmudgeoun.........

I know there has been a lot of discussion about this, but everytime I have gone in there he has gone out of his way to be helpful and is always friendly, regardless if I have gone to look at fabric or buttons (I should stress that I haven't bought masses there, sometimes can be 6 months between visits).

Each time I've been in the shop the owner has been extremely rude - he has a very sarcastic manner (and that was when I was actually trying to BUY something!!) So much so (or do I mean 'sew much sew'??) that I've stopped going in there which is a pity because in my line of work I could have given him a lot of business. I mentioned this to him the last time I ever went in there and suddenly his attitude changed a bit - too late! If anyone knows other stockists who sell the same sort of bold printed furnishing fabrics as him, let me know.

If you just want basic fabrics or haberdashery at much much cheaper prices, go to the little fabric shop on the east side of Peckham Rye station on Blenheim Grove SE15. It has totally different stock to the LL shop (no designer fabrics or funky prints unless by default) but is absolutley stuffed with fabrics, sequinned braids, cheap zips, buttons etc. The owners are friendly but laid back - don't go if you are in a rush, but it's a real experience and worth a visit.

    • You may have more success posting on ED facebook….personally, not a fan  of social media but where I have moved to in the country, this seems to be the main way  of communication. A suggestion for you - well a couple actually - there is a cafe at the edge if Telegraph Hill which might be worth a shot with a pizza stand attached - from memory think it is called White Rabbit or something like that. Cafe has odd evenings when they have music  as well. Not sure if you are to young but give them a go. Get some leaflets/cards done and pop through letterbox or on car windscreen in local area offering your services to clean cars… sure you have done this already. Wish you all the best.
