Toklas
Can anyone give me any ideas for what to buy an active (crawling) one year old boy for his first birthday? We live in a small flat with no garden and very little storage, which complicates things! I plan to get rid of some of his other toys which are baby focussed. But what will engage him now and last a few months at least? Is he too young for a train set? bawdy-nan
What about a wooden bus with wooden people. Our son had one of these at the age and it was such a favourite (taking them out, putting them in etc etc )http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Toys-R-Us/Toys/Preschool-Toys/Universe-of-Imagination-Big-Red-London-Bus(0047021) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46278-birthday-present-for-a-one-year-old/#findComment-760833 Share on other sites

Convex
Agree with train set,Popular toys from age1-2 in our house were duplo, tea set, toy bus, digger etc, train set. The nice thing about duplo and train set is when people ask what to buy you can easily give them ideas that suit a range of budgets. gebbjane
I really rate the wow toys, my son got a few of the vehicles for his 1st birthday and he loves playing with them and could see him playing with them for a good few years http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000593843His older sister has a wooden train set and at the moment (21months) he is far too heavy handed for it. Sonners
My 18 month old has loved her Wow toys since she was about 8 months. She loves putting the people in and out of the various toys we have (campervan, tractor, cars etc), and especially the roundabout from the playground set. Visiting children up to about aged 10 seem to love playing with it too so I think it has good staying power over the years! We have a train set and Duplo but so far she just likes wrecking the track if I put it down or emptying out the Duplo from its box still and not doing much more with it! shaunag
We got my daughter a big box of mega blocks for her first birthday. She has played with it every other day since then (she is 3.5)! Initially she loved emptying out the box, climbing into it, and knocking down the towers we built for her. Now, she mostly likes to build fortresses with us. I think she has loved it so much as it is something we can play with together or she can play with it on her own. My 8 month old now likes knocking down her towers! Loving the suggestions above too though Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/46278-birthday-present-for-a-one-year-old/#findComment-761121 Share on other sites
