What exactly was deranged about what he said?

Will they eradicate Israel with their rockets? No

Will their people continue to die as long as they fire the rockets? Most likely

I don't think Steveo has saod anywhere that Israel are behaving correctly, but if I was an average Palistinian person right now, I think I'd want Hamas to stop "representing" me.

Steveo's ranting and reactionary spouting is as bad as those he is railing against. Right now as a direct result of no intervention from the US or the West, Palestinians as dying in disproportionate numbers to Jews. Otta what would you have the Palestinians do? They've had land stolen from them, they've had access to water restricted, the Israelis have built the West Bank barrier in contravention of well just about everything, they've seen their civil liberties diminish. FFS what do you expect them to do, roll over and die, which is what it seems is exactly what Israel wants. As I've said before the Jews have had to put up with centuries of persecution and you'd think they, all of all peoples, would know better.

I'd also want Israel to treating me like a sub human, tear down the West Bank barrier, give me access to water, freedom to travel within the area, all the other things the Jews have been subjected for centuries and now subject the Palestinians to. How quickly they forget. Has history taught them nothing?

Well i'm more with Steveo than the rest of you...apparently the Palestinian PR is doing a great job. hamas has no intention to ever negotiate or come to a compromise with Israel it wants them - the Jews - out Full Stop. They happily fire rockets into Israel in the direct knowledge that it will end up with dead palestinian children, indeed they actually want that..... the simplistic, anti-Israeli party line fed by Hamas is readily taken up.......It's a mess with both sides culpable, but the simplistic anti-isareli position is, at best, simplistic and sometime smacks of something altogether more sinister.......

and sometime smacks of something altogether more sinister.......

Care to elaborate?

Were Russian partisans responsible for the reprisal hangings of civilians? No it was the hanging guys.

Were Vietnamese soldiers fighting us imperialism responsible for the million dead thanks to blanket bombing of Vietnam (and all the other fuzzy wuzzies)? Nope, the bombing guys.

That seems to be the main problem. Israel think that dead Palestinians make a useful political point and Hamas think that dead Palestinians make a useful political point.

That's not the main problem, the main problem is that things are so fucked up that bullshit like this can be framed this way.

Caring about life is like soo left wing, so naive. We coooool right wingers, sorry, free thinkers, just care about antithesising guardianista windmills in, you know, a tilting fashion.

Cool right wing free thinkers such as the, er, BBC?

And framing people who don't toe (!) the Party Line as not caring about life now that's proper unpleasant Framing

I'm not sure how you can consider my comment as not 'caring about life'. It's quite the opposite.

I don't regard myself as either completely left or right wing, as it happens. I'm a bit of both.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
