ED has grown in confidence as a predominantly family orientated area. LL is therefore losing any attempt it had ten years or so ago to become another 'night out' destination. The likes of Adventure Bar and Drafthouse who would have shown an interest in those early days are no longer viable in this area as families take over from singletons. It's all about Peckham these days for that sort of thing. ED is about food, coffee and gift shops these days. A kind of Northcote Light. This is why the likes of Adventure bar do not work anymore, and Jack Wills, Space NK will follow on behind the cinema. Maybe Adventure bar would work better on Bellenden Road?

Louisa.

Louisa how DARE you? Bellenden Road is way too stylish to host the Adventure or anything of that ilk. No self respecting hipster Peckhamite ( not to mention middle aged blow-in like myself) would draw much pleasure there. Duncan's Croydon jab is cruel but accurate.

The first bit of your post (below), I think is broadly true. Although this could change with the new cinema coming. May be able to sustain a few more bars (or at least the ones already here). Adventure bar was always just bad though.

Much repeated by me but I never got East Dulwich as a destination for going out unless you lived here or very near (excluding the old Comedy Club). I lived in Camberwell for years and never came here in the evening except for a Sunday night curry or the Comedy Club - Inside 72 was good but worth travelling too? Camberwell and Brixton were far livelier and later and if Peckham was like it is now then I expect I'd have gone down there too.

    • I have a very stupid question. I want to get a SIM card to put in an old mobile as a back up,  in case despite my best efforts my mobile gets stolen and I have no way of contacting anybody quickly, eg banks. Can I just buy any old cheap pay as you go  SIM card and put say ten pounds on it and it will then be fine for years (with the phone kept charged!) even if I don't use it, or do I have to use the phone  every so often to keep the SIM card valid?
    • I hate to see trees cut down to such an unfinished state. Unless the tree is home to wildlife, an effort should be made to remove & replace. Otherwise, it's just so useless & unsightly.
    • Given the level of care in Dulwich Park, I would not expect this to be careless or unnecessary. It will grow back.
    • Quite a number of us who visit the park have wondered the same thing. Also, since a lovely tree in Peckham park was almost mistakenly cut down, the confidence in the council is not 100%
