teenage son mugged at knifepoint Ondine Road 19/7/14

pepper spray may be illegal, but a large pot of black ground pepper left forgotten in your bag after a long ago trip to tescoes isn't.

thanks Ladysaw and everyone, my son is remarkably stoic about the whole thing, like a gazelle given a fright at the watering hole by a jackal, shaken but keen to rejoin the herd.

This was years ago so not sure what the law says now, but remember a police officer telling my school that itnis a crime to carry any weapon, and (this is the bit that stuck with me) if an old lady carried sone salt or pepper in her bag just in case, she could in theory be prosecuted.

I suspect they wouldn't actually prosecute, but it's interesting.

Is this some kind of typo? Or are you really saying that salt and pepper would deter a knife wielding mugger?

Dirt in the face, making out you're going to be sick, shouting out 'excuse me officer'

All these can work.
