Eric York the (non) dogwalker

Forgive me for being a bit slow if this has been dealt with elsewhere, but why is his fraudulent conduct not such that it would be perfectly justifiable reporting him to the Police?

I quite appreciate individually it is not a large amount of money (although assuming he does the same thing with others, over time the total of his fraudulently obtained money would mount up). If he deceives you in order to gain financially, by agreeing he will take your dog out for a walk, but then not doing so, making it look like he has done and then asking for/accepting money for having done so (when he hasn't) how is that not obtaining money by deception (i.e. a criminal offence under The Theft Act, or under The Fraud Act?

If he stole from me like that I would go to the Police as I would want him stopped from ripping others off, as well as wanting some justice for me and my dog!

Trading Standards would be a poor second best, but better than nothing. The RSPCA is the wrong organisation entirely for this.

What a scumbag!! Next time I go to the pet shop in Northcross Road I will see if he's advertising for this man's services. If he still is, I will be spending my money somewhere else!

I agree completely with robbin. I'm sorry you've been through this. Whilst I also appreciate it is a small amount of money, it still comes down to theft. You've paid for services that you haven't received. To have the audacity to just walk in to someones home, take the money you have been left and leave without thought is just disgusting behaviour. You wouldn't let someone just take money out of your purse and then shrug it off. I realise its difficult to go forward with some complaints about people but I do think the police need to be informed of cases like this and your the perfect person to do it as you have true footage of the event in question. East Dulwich forum is a large community, yes, but still only a marginal amount of residents use it. He could be getting away with this, with 20 families, a week who have no idea as they don't read the forum. Regardless of whether he is being paid ?2.50 for a dog walk or ?10 the amount of money he is fraudulently taking of people that have no reason not to trust him could well be a lot! You will feel better about it all if you at least report it and you could be saving more people the hurt of finding out he has been doing this to them.
What does Eric look like!? Does he live on under hill rd? Brown hair white man with reddish cheeks! If so I walked passed him about 6 months ago and he was yelling at a dog and my fellow mum friend said she saw him grabbing the dog round the neck :( this very much saddened me.

    • Well, they do turn them away from the A&E route at Kings and rightly so they employ GPs and if after triaging you’re determined to have a GP type problem you are sent to see one of the GPs on site or close to the site.
    • My bike (a ELOPS 120 step over classic from Decathlon) was stolen from outside The Belham this afternoon. I locked it up while I collected my kids, then the street was so busy that I left it there while I walked them home. Did a few other things at home, came back about 5.30pm and it was gone. Sharing just in case anyone sees it or finds it anywhere - it’s a few years old and the chain is a bit rusty/makes a clicking sound so maybe there’s a slight chance someone would dump it! Really annoying and just a reminder to be really careful with bikes. The picture shows the bike model from the Decathlon website.
    • Thanks, I didn't know that.  People are even more stupid than I thought then, if they are willing to wait hours in A&E for an ingrown toenail. I presume they don't get put at the front of the queue. Why isn't the 111 service more widely advertised? That puts you in touch with a doctor, who will advise on the phone or visit, and if necessary  you will be advised to go to A&E or they will arrange an ambulance to take you.
